Can we maybe get some location details on that Philadelphia location? Also, is that road pilon still up there?! So how many Caldor stores are vacant in the state of New Jersey now?

As for the Caldor in Newington, Connecticut: there have been no real developments in about a month. The building is an absolute skeletan now. It would seem their plan is to simply keep the old skeletal structure up and build the Stew's right on the former site.

Here's what I don't get. Why do some 1980's Caldor stores use that weird orange lettering and not the rainbow that was used all the way from the later 1970s to (generally the early 90s) the day they croaked? I'm pretty sure the rainbow was used all the way through the later 1970s~1980s.

The legendary rainbow logo I created rather primitively on MS Paint...

jersey has a handfull of locations ny has one on long island all i know about that caldor is that its near woodbrige nj which is near PA the sign is sitll up i believe i wish someone could go there lol

the orange lettering was teh loo they used from like 1982 to like 1990 1991 and tehy chaged it to what we saw till 1999

Here's an aerial view courtesy of Google Maps of a vacant Caldor & Pergament Express plaza in East Patchogue (Long Island), New York. This store is located on the Montauk Highway/Sillis Road (101) junction and appears to be vacant to this day.

Thanks to Caldor1999 and who ever took pictures of it a few pages back. I might be going sometime this week seeing as my brother lives ten minutes away...

Here is what is now in the place of the old Albany-Central Avenue store. After being Caldor, it was a Grand Union Megasave store for 6 months, then the whole Caldor and attached plaza was demolished for the Home Depot you see here.

Yes, you're correct. I just took a slew (about 90) of pictures of the almost completely vacant Caldor/Pergament Express plaza in East Patchogue while here in Holbrook, NY just yesterday. I'm not at my home computer right now nor do I have my transfer cable (it's actually being overhauled at the moment) but when I'm back up and running in a couple days expect all the pictures to be up and viewable to you all.

So far, there's three confirmed vacancies in New York: East Patchogue, Flushing (Queens), and Middletown. I hope to visit the last two real soon.

Anyway, the plaza is a real hole... possibly one of the worst I've ever seen.

Here's the vacant Caldor located on the split between Sills Road and Montauk Highway in East Patchogue (Long Island), New York.

A elderly woman told me this Caldor has been vacant for 11 years. After looking at the sign (much less the building), I wasn't in doubt.

The sign still stands in the former Caldor and Pergament Express plaza. Both chains went belly up in 1999, which is when I believe they both shuttered.

Here's a view of the plaza where the sign is located (across the street). Some employees from Eckerd (the remaining, lone tenant in the long dead plaza) told me that a Lowe's (Hardware) store is slated for this lot. I doubt this is happening anytime soon...

Looking at the site in the aerial images on Google Earth, the site seems large enough for a Lowes. They would probably demolish the whole plaza and just build the Lowes as a free standing store. There is definately enough room for that.

idk if lowes wanted to tear it down and mak  a store they would have done it already besides looking at how rundown it is i doubt it this caldor will probley still stay vacant fro awle just like the oen in middletown and the one in flushing queens
