heres a video of the caldor in Poughkeepsie ny back in 1981 from what i remember this redid this entire store before it closed in 1998 also it looks as if they used the orange lettering back in the early 80's as well

heres the caldor in yorktown ny this pic is from 1988 the store was compleatley redone before it closed its now a kmart and sadley i still cant find one pic of the bedford hill ny location

Amazing videos! That Poughkeepsie store looks just like the current vacant husk still there in Groton, Conn. At least we know what it looked like in its heyday! Also, that road sign in Northampton gives us a good idea of what some of the signs looked like -- I just saw the Northampton store, now a Walmart, a couple weeks back.

yea i know i always get that one mixed up with the one by the south hills mall  but yea im guessing they used that style on a few of there stores and it seems that the orange lettering was used in the early 80's as well and the Northampton store has the frist logo on the road sign i hope i can find more pictures soon maby even try to find ones of caldors that were around me

Was wondering that myself -- I happened upon it in August and went through all the back postings, and sadly there's not been a new one since I found it which is disappointing because it's really quite excellent. :(

To be honest I'd never even heard of Caldor prior to coming across Nick's blog (most of my shopping was in Maine or the Portsmouth area of NH as a child)...now I feel as if I know it rather well! :P

it was alot like target they even sold the same clouths that target sells now one of the causes of there bankrupicey was they spent to much time rentvating there stores they also opened stores durring there bankrupcy

I'm in the same boat as you. I always lived in New Hampshire and Vermont so I always went to Ames, Bradlees, and Rich's, my only memory of Caldor's is the Torrington, CT one when I'd visit my grandparents.

I am suprised no one has brought this up. Its been 10 years now that Caldor went out of business! Whoever is the dude that runs Caldor Rainbow should do a 10th anniversary thing for Caldor.

Passed by the The Vacant Caldor building in Groton today which is used by Pfizer's. I actually wonder if they changed the inside of the building.

The last store closed nearly 10 years ago in May 1999.

What do you mean by "still standing"?  Do you mean that no alteration whatsoever was done to the building?  For me "still standing" would mean that most of the building was not torn down.

What do you mean by "still standing"?  Do you mean that no alteration whatsoever was done to the building?  For me "still standing" would mean that most of the building was not torn down.

still standing as in the building is still there vacant never turned into anything

theres a vacant caldor in middletown ny still had the road sign and the logo inside the hakk way is still on there but the logo on the building has been taking off

another one is in queens ny that still had the logo on it but its falling apart
