Just have to get XISMZERO up there for that then.

How tragic! They repainted that age-old Woburn store into that ugly, cheap remodel in blue?! And powersbt, I've already posted the interior shots from before they did the repaint.

Also, someone on Jason Dama's Labelscar blog told me about that Catonsville store. Wow. I've never seen a variant quite like that one with a glass tunnel covering the entrance. You can see the only renovation is a white roof paint job like the Bangor, ME store.

Might have to plan a trip to Pennsylvania to see that York store sometime before it gets a horrid repaint job. I think they've already diseased that Jeoffrey...

Here's a picture of the old Kids "R" Us in Danbury, Connecticut. I retrieved this picture from the Danbury Online Assessor Database (which is why the quality is very low). No date was recorded. Unfortunately, there was no picture of the Toys "R" Us before the remodel.

The brown-roof, rainbow-era Toys "R" Us colors. This was taken while in the Clay, New York store this Summer which I hope wasn't painted over like Woburn since.

Bay Shore, New York. This store shows possible evidence of an earlier design with a "glass exit" and some conspicuous former entrances since patched.

Here's a pic of the Toys R Us in Langley Park, MD, that is slated to close.  It is in a former 2-story K-Mart that was originally built as a Lansburgh's department store in 1953.  The Toys R Us replaced the K-Mart in about 1998 after K-Mart opened its new store at 6411 Riggs Rd in Hyattsville.

there is a kids r us in the toys r us in waterford.  I saw a petco in waterford that looked like a kids r us.

XISMZERO

I can confirm d_fife is correct. If we're talking about Waterford, Connecticut, Kids R Us across the Crystal Mall has been converted into (either) Petco or Office Depot. Most of their former locations became Office Depot stores.

Yes, PetCo used to be a KidsRUS.

That's what the Waterford CT ToysRus used to look like.

Actually, I think it looked more like the Clay, NY store (which also looked like the Danbury, CT store). There's a difference - that Woburn variant has a scaffold, and shorter (former) rainbow planks and was built well before both stores. The Waterford store I remember, but not too well, from far off childhood and the few times I've been to the Crystal Mall (and area).

One of my friends remembered it too, but unfortunately, had renovated just a few years ago.

I'm not sure if anyone caught this but while riding down Wolcott Street in Waterbury (CT) today, I found some amazing vestige of the brown Toys R Us; the brown-era, former road sign!

For those unaware, Toys R Us shuttered after the Brass Mill Center was built miles down the road in 1997. This Toys R Us was demolished around the time the mall opened but was in fact a brown/rainbow store. If one could only see under the Price Chopper tarp, there could be something underneath!

Here's a close up of the former sign. Toys R Us used to be here, now it's a Price Chopper.

Toys 'R' Us, Waterbury, CT. Located in the Brass Mill Commons, this store was built (I believe in 1997 or 1998) alongside the Brass Mill Center and was the first "prototype/concept 2000" store in the state.

This is also the state's newest built store which relocated from one located a few miles down the road which has become a Price Chopper since.

Here's the inside of the store. It has since conformed to the store's image today with the usual circular street layout. As you can see, the store is very spacious.

Toys 'R' Us on Victory Boulevard, Burbank, CA. Now if you'll remember, this store was seen briefly in the movie Back to the Future right in the beginning of the movie and once featured a brown road sign! As you can see, the store has been remodeled since (1984-5). (Courtesy Microsoft Virtual Earth)

Here's the Toys 'R' Us of Anaheim, CA when the store was in it's final years. As you can see, this store features a bizarre, very old layout complete with pastel colored lettering and brown road sign. (Courtesy Microsoft Virtual Earth).

Not sure if anyone has seen them; here's Jen Owens' excellent gallery of the vacant Toys 'R' Us beside the Euclid Square Mall in Euclid, Ohio. As far as I know, it's still there today rotting away.

Upon my research on older stores, it appears there are still a few old, unaltered brown/rainbow facade stores still around. Bloomington, IL (across the Eastland Mall), York, PA (across the West Manchester Mall), Chicago/North Riverside, IL (West Cermak Ave.) are just a few of the ones still around to my knowledge beyond the New York area (Clay, Horseheads).

Check these out! Some old advertisments from Toys 'R' Us in the 80's. The feature of these videos are a fantastic image of how magical the store used to be; the old-school store design and the jingle!
