Here's the whited-out sign to the former Toys R Us in Commack. This store was hit by the most recent 87 store closings in 2006.

Creepy Kids R Us in Evansville. By the way, the Manchester, NH location has officially been demolished and is in the process of becoming something new. My pictures of it should be on these forums somewhere...

I remember the old brown TRU's in Nanuet and Danbury. I remember going into one of them once upon a time looking for my first GigaPet. It was very old looking inside. It's sad that they've both been redone now. I think I might remember a TRU in Paramus too.

I used to work at the KRU in Middletown, NY. I hated it there and only lasted a month. Maybe it's better now that it's BRU.
Before there was Wal-Mart...

The Danbury one is sad, indeed. Next time I head up to the Danbury area, I will stop in and ask around about when the hay they remodeled it because it's been bothering me. It was probably done shortly after they rebuilt the Waterbury location and not previously (as I've stated) around 2003.

I got retribution when I traveled to see the Clay, NY location which is an almost perfect replication of the Danbury store.

Where is Clay? As I said, I live in Middletown. Is it way upstate or what? I'd love to visit it if it's not too far. I wish I had taken pictures of the brown one in Nanuet before it got redone, but I wasn't taking pictures of dead retail yet. I was interested, just not going on excursions.

Unfortunately and oddly enough, my location in Connecticut is most likely closer than yours in Middletown. It's about a 4 and a half hour haul to Clay, which is just north of Syracuse way upstate. It's not as bad as Buffalo, but I've asked and know many New Yorkers haven't even heard of Clay before.

Without spamming, here's what the Clay store looks as of August 2006 - preserved wonderfully for almost 20 years.

That looks amazingly kept up. I'm sad that it's so far away. If I ever wander up that way I'll go see it, but I can't make a special trip for it with the way gas prices are.

If anything, you could travel to Elmira (Horseheads) to see the other of the two old-styled ones left in New York (although not quite like this one or as well kept). Better go now, gas is actually "cheap" these days before it skyrockets back to $3 for Summer.
