Yeah, it was the same way with Ames. Why junk it when you can let it sit in there for the next store to use? Hopefully they won't repaint it.

bangor. the store had a cheap remodeling job, but it also must have been one of the last stores to be brown, as it opened in 1989 and I bet 1990 was the transition from brown to white.

here is the brown Toys r us in Woburn. the only brown one left in massachusetts and I have been to every Toys r us in massachusetts. I went there on FRiday April 21, 2006 at 11:45 am. IT was even busy then and seems to be one of the most busiest toys r us' though it is out in the middle of no where in a not so major retail plaza. well it has been there long enough for it to establish itsself. The store is huge and 48,000 sq.ft. (seems to be the largest in massachusetts) and store number 7506. it probably opened 1978 and seems to be one of the earliest stores.  it is on the winchester line.

here is the closed toys r us in medford that closed earleir this year, taken as of april 21, 2006. IT USED TO BE CHILD WORLD and it opened late 1992.

it seems a lot of the 1992 or 1993 stores closed, (As it is not uncommon for chains to clsoe newer stores; as caldor, bradlees, k-mart, ames, have done that; as either they did not work out, leases are high and people did not catch on to them as the older stores long established themselves and made the cut yeras ago and have lower rents.

The Toys R Us that was next to the Mall of Memphis closed sometime earlier this year and now the Office Depot next to it is also closed.  This makes me wonder if they have plans to demolish the whole area where the Mall was since they've yet to do anything with the old Mall property....

:( :goodidea: :(

The Woburn location was truly special - I recommend anyone in the New England area see it. I still want to go back after my initial visit a few months back. I've got loads more pictures of the Medford and Woburn locations as part of my recent trips there. I skipped out on the nearby Cambridge store (like Medford, closed as part of the 87).

This bed bath and beyond in bangor was a kids r us that opened in 1992 and closed in 1994. I knew that the kids r us concept would fail and I wonder if there was an overlap between them and babies r us (Babies r us has diapers, cribs, car seats, baby toys and clothing, stuff for kids up to 2 yeras old, videos of stuff like seseme street (but kids r us' where around 20,000 sq.ft. and babies r us' were around 35,000 sq.ft. to 38,000 sq.ft. and smaller ones 24,000 sq.ft.)

I've got an interesting piece of information regarding Toys "R" Us. While I was at my work last week, a nearby Toys "R" Us supervisor (on staff since 1992) came into the store. Of course, I had to tell her I was a fan of the store but didn't like what they did with the store during the renovation years.

She then told me that Toys "R" Us is planning a remodel of the store back to the warehouse-style and that the remodeling is to begin in the end of July. I'm not sure if this is a company decision or the West Hartford, CT's idea but I was nonetheless joyed.

Here's an article I found on the news: http://www.wcbs880.com/pages/52467.php?

I hope to maybe bring back some photos of it all. Stay tuned!

Maybe you didn't realize this but we went one day apart. I went on the cloudy Saturday after :(

I still want to go back a get more photos but it could get a little expensive with tolls and gas at what not. Still want to visit the Clay store but that 4+ hour drive isn't in my immediate future.
