I'll send out photos later, but the Sears in Warwick, RI closed back in mid-2017. One half seems to be in the middle of construction for a At home, while the other half sits vacant with a giant labelscar.

I wonder if the Rotterdam mall in Schenectady will ever find a tenant for the Sears I worked at for a month. There has been talk about a ShopRite setting up shop there..

The sad state of Sears today...  These were taken at a Sears store that is not being closed. Maybe they were just waiting for a shipment but this is just sad.

This was what the Meriden, CT Sears tool department looked like back in November. I believe they were remodeling the department itself but other areas of the store were also scarce on stock and they weren't making any efforts to hide it. You can't get sales if you don't have anything in stock to purchase.

That's pitiful!

I guess it was 2 years ago that my wife decided I needed to find something for $25 at Sears, which she would buy for me as a birthday present. The shelves looked not much different than those. It was just after Christmas, so maybe that had something to do with it. I've noticed the competition (Lowes, Home Depot, Ace Hardware, etc) don't seem to have this problem.

I'm trying to remember what that Sears was like when I visited also in November, but I just basically ran through the store.

Had not heard that, but it would seem to be a logical idea.  There are no supermarkets in that area (the others are up more towards Altamont Ave and Curry Road), and the fairly easy access off of I-890 would be helpful for others who might want to come from areas around where ShopRite doesn't exist (similarly to the latest one in North Greenbush being easy to get to off I-90 Exit 8).

With Sears Canada gone and Sears US soon to follow, Sears Mexico will be all that remains.

I don't know, but it will be a lot sooner than 2043. Maybe this, next year or the year after.

Good article detailing the multiple pressures that Sears is under
and why they are a long shot to survive for much longer.

Sears is cutting 200 home office positions effective immediately.

A hard lesson from my days scuffling through retail bankruptcy.
A lot of people at the home office who think their jobs are very important
are actually quite expendable.

At store level they still need someone to open the doors every day and to run the register.
Home office administration, not so much.

Yes. Just like how the big "W" store laid off 1000 at their corporate office. Going back to the first time I worked for that company 10 years ago, they were talking about how bloated their corporate office was.

I say that as I feel SEars Holding will liquidate next.

I have seen many places go out of business the last 25 or more years.

Heck, we've seen entire countries go out of business during that time.
Czechoslovakia.  Yugoslavia.  The Soviet Union.

Ocean county mall in New Jersey. I just happened to go in last week on the very last day. I had no idea it was closing. We parked there because there were hardly any cars and with a 2 year old, it was convenient.

Walked into an empty store. Turned the corner and found about 200 people attacking the last few racks of clothes and pitifully few other items. Signs were up limiting people to one cart per family. I found 2 pairs of pants, 2 dresses and a T-shirt. Total regular retail was just around $115. After 80%, it was $38. They took an additional 75%. I paid $9.50.

I’m sad to see the store close, glad I got some clothes. We could always use some. My mother worked for sears in the late 80’s, early 90’s. Different location but still a memory. Had I known it was the very last day of operation, maybe I would have gone a few days sooner. Goodbye childhood. First it was Zayre, then Bradlees and Caldor, now Sears. Too many great stores gone by the wayside. Thanks for the memories.
Jaime...BRADLEES FOREVER!!!

The Sears in Green Bay is now vacant after 50 years in their current location in a strip mall

(Sears was originally in Downtown Green Bay until the 1960s along with H.C. Prange, J.C. Penney, Woolworth, Kresge, and Montgomery Ward. They moved to the west side of town. Their old downtown location was a victim of one of many urban renewal projects by a group called GREGBY [GREater Green BaY], which included a new hotel, Beaumont Motor Inn, in 1965 and a new shopping mall in 1977, Port Plaza, anchored by JCPenney and Prange's, both of which were torn down in 2012 for new developments.)

I spotted this posted elsewhere: a video from 30+years ago taken of a Christmas office party at Sears, among other things.

A Christmas office party in retail can be a very dangerous thing.

I attended one, many years ago.  I won't name the company but they are
long out-of-business.

One of the assistant managers in our store had WAY too much to drink.
He started expressing his opinions VERY freely about what a doofus his District
Manager was, how badly the company was run, and how cheap the CEO was
(the CEO happened to be Jewish and this rant was filled with ethnic slurs).

The next day the District Manager came to the store, took his keys and escorted
him from the building.

Another little blonde girl from the jewelry department got rip-snorting drunk.
The bartender refused to serve her any more.  She actually got physically violent
and started a brawl!

Or, it could be fun or funny. The tv show, Superstore, is kind of like The Office, and it's one of the shows that has gotten better over time. They had a Christmas Eve episode in Season 3. I don't remember if I watched it or liked it. But, they had one episode dedicated to Target that I remember that I liked, but it was a somewhat a sponsored promotion for it, between NBC/Universal and Target. Obviously, Target was shown in a very good light, while Cloud 9, the fictitious store of the show is contrasted to it.
