Here is a picture of the Sears at Neshaminy Mall, Bensalem, PA.  This Sears location opened in 1968.

QuoteThis bugs the hell out of me since they're now showing it in ads PICK ONE DAMN IT! one or the other, NOT BOTH!!!!!!

Then this will bother you for a long time then- the only Sears stores to receive the new signage were those lucky enough to get the new signs while Sears, Roebuck was still in control... Eddie Lampert refuses to spend money on anything, so don't hold your breath.

Personally, as an ex-Sears associate, I prefer the new logo- it gives Sears a much more modern, vibrant look.

I have a Sears measuring tape from the 70's and a Sears level from the 80's.

Sears left the Sears Tower in 1992, but it's a shame to loose that name....  The Woolworth and Chrysler buildings kept their names.....

QuoteSears Tower name change has few Chicago fans
By Mary Ellen Podmolik | Tribune reporter

Changing the name of Sears Tower to Willis Tower is a no-brainer, especially if you're Willis Group Holdings.

Corporate naming rights, whether it's a stadium or an office tower, boil down to ego, marketing and money, and now a London-based insurance brokerage with practically zero name recognition with the public gets its name attached to the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere.

What's far less certain is whether loyal Chicagoans, as well as tourists, will allow the "Willis Tower" name to stick.

The immediate reaction was obvious outside the Wacker Drive skyscraper Thursday, shortly after Willis announced it secured naming rights to the tower as part of its deal to relocate area offices to three floors there. Cell phone and digital cameras clicked away as word of the pending name change spread and people came to capture images of the Sears Tower name before it disappears in late July.

Many people, including hundreds chiming in online, appeared dead-set against embracing Sears Tower as anything different, despite the fact that the retailer it was named for left for the suburbs 17 years ago.

"I think it's terrible," said Jen King, 20, of Bartlett. "It's been the Sears Tower forever."

"It's just wrong," said her friend Audrey Joseph, 22, of St. Louis, shaking her head.

The Sears at Cottman and Bustelton Avenue was originally a Gimbel Brothers location.  Opened as "Gimbels Great Northeast" in the early 1960's, then in the mid 1980's became Stern's (when Allied Stores, then owners of Stern's and Pomeroy's) acquired the Philadelphia area Gimbels stores.

Sears acquired this site in the early 1990's to replace their Adams Avenue and Roosevelt Boulevard store/catalog warehouse location.

I used to go to this store all the time when I was little in the early 90's when it was Phar-Mor...I couldn't remember  the exact location though. I always thought it was weird how it had a Sears on the 2nd level.

My local Sears is finally getting the new logo, replacing the early 90's logo (the old sign looked nasty and discolored). My other area Sears still has a red 1984-era logo!!!

The 1984-1992 Sears logo, I think.

Definitely the 1983-mid 1990's Sears logo.

My faith in Sears has been renewed as of late. We just bought a new gas grill from Sears Essentials and their price was lower than Lowes and Home Depot and I actually got really good help in my purchasing of the grill. The staff was very knowledgable and helpful and I can say our Sears Essentials is thriving. Just like Kmart/Sears from a few years ago they generate pretty good business now.

I hate Sears.... and I work for Kmart!

Here are some reasons:

1) The employees do not leave alone. They are always asking if I need help or anything. Its kinda old after awhile... I'm treated as know I'm shoplifting!

2) The manager tried to have Loss Prevention detain me for "Associate Discount Fraud" after I used my card when my friend needed shoes. To keep things legal, I handed the cashier the money and gave my friend his shoes... well the manager got upset, and tried to have LP get me for this. Thankfully, the single LP guy was going a cash pull at the jewelry counter.

3) They tell their customers that their ads can honored at Kmart.

4) It smells like old people.

5) They have audio announcements for "safety rules" at the escalators... these announcements continually warn people not to use carts or strollers on the escalators or to "walk or run in the opposite direction of this escalator's travel."

5) They tell their customers that their ads can honored at Kmart.

6) The employees are usually rude and act like they don't care. In appliances, you can tell which employees earn commissions...

7) Even commissioned employees don't do anything sometimes. When we were looking for a TV with my grandpa, the employee only patrolled his area when the football game went to a commercial.

8) They tell their customers that their ads can be honored at Kmart.

9) The store is oddly arranged.

10) Employees wrongly tell customers that their ads can be honored at Kmart. (Can you tell I hate this)

11) They don't have a good selection for "young adults" in the apparel departments. The whole men's department is a joke.

12) It looks like they TRIED to remodel it... but the lighting and flooring give away the half-assed look.

Having worked for Sears for a long while and during the merger era, I want to add some input here.

Here are some reasons:

1) The employees do not leave alone. They are always asking if I need help or anything. Its kinda old after awhile... I'm treated as know I'm shoplifting! That's because they are on commission with a very low base rate, no sales, no pay...

Sears Holdings is looking to backstab you as soon as they can, never buy something for someone in a Kmart or Sears store and let them see you be given money or give the person the item while within range of them or their cameras, we lost several associates this way...

3) They tell their customers that their ads can honored at Kmart. According to corporate policy, Kmart is supposed to honor Sears pricing on the same merchandise.

4) It smells like old people. Odd, mine smelt like tires.

5) They have audio announcements for "safety rules" at the escalators... these announcements continually warn people not to use carts or strollers on the escalators or to "walk or run in the opposite direction of this escalator's travel." If you have never worked in a store with an escalator, you wouldn't know... people can be so stupid- simple signs telling them not to do these things will not suffice.

5) They tell their customers that their ads can honored at Kmart. According to corporate policy, Kmart is supposed to honor Sears pricing on the same merchandise.

6) The employees are usually rude and act like they don't care. In appliances, you can tell which employees earn commissions... All associates in Brand Central are on commission, the only non-commission associates are in the cashwraps and the MCAs keeping the apparel tidy.

7) Even commissioned employees don't do anything sometimes. When we were looking for a TV with my grandpa, the employee only patrolled his area when the football game went to a commercial.

8) They tell their customers that their ads can be honored at Kmart. According to corporate policy, Kmart is supposed to honor Sears pricing on the same merchandise.

9) The store is oddly arranged. It was probably built before your grandfather and has been altered many times, Sears is over 130 years old now...

10) Employees wrongly tell customers that their ads can be honored at Kmart. (Can you tell I hate this) According to corporate policy, Kmart is supposed to honor Sears pricing on the same merchandise.

11) They don't have a good selection for "young adults" in the apparel departments. The whole men's department is a joke. Probably because most of it gets stolen anyway, so why put forth the effort of having nicer things

12) It looks like they TRIED to remodel it... but the lighting and flooring give away the half-assed look. No offense, but I am sure that Sears looked better than most Kmart stores...

when was the last time sears open a brand new store

tntornadox

Of course, the Essentials stores and newer Grands have occured as late as last year, but the last 'brand new' store was in 2004 with the opening of the last 'mega-Grand' before the merger at Pittsburgh Mills.

Please tell of where I can find this "price-match" on Sears/Kmart information? According to OUR managers no such policy exists and "that while we are one company, we are treated as too different stores." Even the Sears manager told us that the associate was wrong in telling the customer that their ads could be honored at Kmart.... So while I'm not wishing to start a fight, I would like to know where I could find this policy. The only policy that I'm aware of is the fact we can honor the Craftsmen Hand Tool Refund....

It may have to do with the fact that we had some district-level integration here between Sears and Kmart, our local K's honor our prices on like merchandise and vice versa, but it was a corporate directive that was sent down awhile back, of course, as with most policies under the Big S, they probably go unenforced across most of the corporation.

Yea, I know that we told NOT to honor ANY Sears prices nor was Sears to honor any Kmart Prices (unless it qualified for the Price-match guarantee). It's actually been a big headache... we get people that will literally buy cartfulls of Kenmore/Craftsmen stuff expecting  it be on sale at Kmart too..

HOFFMAN ESTATES , Ill. (Jul. 30) Sears is getting back in the toy business, according to reports, opening toy shops at 20 Sears stores next month.

The Los Angeles Times reported that Sears will open six toy shops in Southern California, four in San Francisco, seven in the Chicago area and three in the New York metropolitan area.

Sears had previously hired KB Toys set up temporary shops inside its stores, but the experiment failed, and Sears has been facing increasing competition from Wal-Mart and other chains.

QuoteSears Holdings swings to surprise loss as sales slump
The big miss drags down expected second-quarter industry performance

Aug 20, 2009, 12:39 p.m. EST

By Andria Cheng, MarketWatch

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- Sears Holdings Corp. on Thursday reported a surprise loss for the second quarter, hurt by store-closing and pension costs as well as lower demand for home appliances and apparel. Its shares declined 11%, their biggest drop in seven months.

The Hoffman Estates, Ill.-based retailer swung to a loss of $94 million, or 79 cents a share, compared to a profit of $65 million, or 50 cents a share, a year earlier.

(...)Analysts have faulted Lampert for not making needed capital spending and investments to spruce up stores in the face of increased competition from Home Depot Inc. to Wal-Mart Stores Inc. , which have embarked on their own remodeling program.

The operator of about 3,900 Sears and Kmart stores said U.S. comparable-store sales slumped 8.6% overall, -- 13% at Sears and 3.9% at Kmart.
