Four Star Plaza is a rundown plaza on Allen Street in New Britain, Connecticut. 2 of the buildings were built in 1968 and the plaza is currently owned by Capstone Properties of Burlington, Mass. A third building was built in 1989. Save-a-Lot was the anchor here until 2008 when they moved to New Brite Plaza on East Main Street. The spot has been vacant ever since. Plans for a C-Town Supermarket (the second in New Britain) were announced in 2011 for that spot and never materialized. The spot was original a First National Supermarket. There was also a Cousin's Bakery and a Farm Shop in the plaza back in the day. I don't know how many businesses pictured in the picture of Building 1 in the link below are still open. I haven't been in that area in years.

Building number 2 I can confirm at least 2 of the businesses pictured are operating. - TD Bank and Almadina International Supermarket. At one time in building 2 there was also a pizza place that had the worst pizza in the world. It is the one that moved into the old Ponderosa in New Britain. It changed its name when it moved. (It has since closed).

Building #3 which was built in 1989 had a Family Dollar until 2013 when they moved to a newly built free-standing store on the other side of Allen Street. In the picture in the link 2 other store fronts can be seen. Family Dollar was a Brooks Pharmacy or a Rite Aid. It relocated to a freestanding building on Stanley Street.

Marc's Note: Short of a bulldozer I'm not sure if anything can be done with this plaza. Central Connecticut State University is nearby and so are a lot of apartments. Something ought to be done to go after the college students demographics besides the liquor store.

75% of New Britain needs a bulldozer. I wonder who remodeled the supermarket (where I guess Finast was), it looks like it was lifted from a Sweetbay plaza, in Tampa. That supermarket building looked nice...

Well, it appears that Sweetbay was previously known as Kash n' Karry and was at one point owned by American Stores.  American stores is now part of the Albertson's group, but was also owned by SuperValu for a while.

Sav-A-Lot is also a subsidiary of SuperValu, so since this was a Sav-A-Lot for a time, perhaps that is where the design comes from (if in a round about way)?

I think they remodeled the former supermarket building after Save-A-Lot closed.  They also used to have railings around the front of the store so you couldn't take the carts into the parking lot.

America's Food Basket has finally opened. A Grand Opening is scheduled for April 28th. Residents hope with the opening of the grocery store the plaza will be brought back to life. Extensive facade renovations are either in the works or have taken place. TD Bank in this plaza has closed.

Never heard of this plaza.

It's on Allen Street in New Britain near Tremont Street. Kind of a sketchy area. Not too far from Central Connecticut State University.

Now I see what it looks like. Reminds me of one of those plazas deep in Willimantic.

O'Reilly's Auto Parts just opened in a portion of the former Family Dollar Space. La Mega 101.7 the number 2 Hispanic station in the market did an all day live remote including a car show not too long ago.

I'm really happy this once rundown shopping center is starting to become revitalized. There appears to be 4 vacancies.
