The Mid West is loaded with Super K marts

ya, a lot of their supercenters seem to be in ohio. Their first supercenter was in ohio. only one supercenter is in the northeast: queensbury / Glens falls new york. I went to that store 1.5 years ago adn it was like a super wal-mart. There used to be ones in NEW haven and wallingford Ct; Kingston NY, Middletown NY (it had the store within a store conversion  that was done in late 2001, and closed early 2003, the store must have spent more money than it made) and amsterdam new york.

An article as of July 2002 says that Kmart converted 4 indianappolis stores to supercenters. But they were bankrupt then, so they must have started just before the bankruptcy. they had about 25,000 square feet of selling space added.

YOu know, before the start of 2002 i had no indication that kmart would file for bankruptcy, but on JAnuary 2, 2002 there were rumblings starting of kmart possibly filing for bankruptcy.  I do not like what Charles conway did to the company. he cut down the advertising, he did bring back the blue light special and covered up their losses. Kmart during the bankruptcy rumblings said they have enough cash. They filed in January 22, 2002 after fleming would stop shipping and some suppliers were stopping shipments and kmart said they had a bad christmas. then there were rumblings of closing up to 700 stores. They closed 600 stores in two waves, spring 2002 and mid winter/early spring 2003. 700 would have been too many.

since they closed like 15 due to leases expiring, 4 to kohl's in san jose, 18 to home depot and probably 70 are kohl's, they have 1400 now. they w/ill never be a 2000 stoer chain again. three supercenters around memphis closed last sumemr due to poor performance, one store is left around memphis. two of the supercenters in indianappolis closed in wave 2. they must have spent more than making.
