Kmart in Falmouth ME had a similar canopy for the garden center.  Today the store is a Wal-Mart but the original structure remains with the Kmart arches and Kmart signature bricks.

Thanks for the Cromwell pics. They are wonderful. That's the closest one to me. I always pass it on the highway towards the shoreline. In your opinion, is the K-Mart in good condition?

yes I do think it is.

which kmarts have all of you seen the Red smaller case kmart logo? I have only seen it in newburyport mass store.

AmesNewington

I wish all K-Mart stores switched the exterior sign to the new kind. It would make the chain look alive again. It looks unprofessional with the old logo on it.

kmart closing stow ohio because of business reasons and just this one.

A few weeks ago I swung by the vacant Kmart in Manchester, Connecticut. View the album in my signature below "Spent on Spencer Street". I like having fun with titles so... enjoy!

It just occured to me that between this Kmart and the Manchester Parkade, Manchester has a forgotten side apart from being one of the biggest explosions of retail in Connecticut.

Here's the Kmart in Southbury, Connecticut located easily of I-84, Exit 15. This Kmart is by far the most impressive, most developed store in Connecticut and you'll see why...

Kmart of Southbury, CT is unlike any other store in the state because of one thing. This store is a two-leveled stand alone store, approximately the way a Kmart ought to look in this day and age of Supercenters despite financial woes.

This Kmart features an operating Little Caesar's Pizza. Most Kmarts today no longer feature the pizza chain because of both companies suffering financially.

Escalators and Elevators both allow shoppers access to the lower level. This Kmart is a little deceptive as the second level is underground instead of above.

As new as this store looked, featuring more lighting I haven't seen at a Kmart in a long time, this store was caught using various generations and series of hand baskets!

Older signage found on the sidewalk right off Kmart's property. While the store looked newer than most stores, it still had that outdated look Kmarts have today. I wonder how old this store is...

Yeah I was expecting a real "unique" looking store there with that outside pic, but the inside looks like an average kmart with a crappy late 90's remodel job

The Southbury store did in fact look a lot like most Kmarts (distressed cheap attempt to show vital signs) but the two-level feature took me by complete surprise. When d_fife mentioned it in his Connecticut trip, I almost didn't believe it - I never knew Kmart could fill so much space especially in this day and age.

Anyway, the store lighting was very bright for a Kmart (some of the pictures don't quite do it justice) but the low-level ceilings make you feel like you're in a bunker. Target, who also doesn't use warehouse ceilings can pull off the non-warehouse look with higher clearance ceilings giving it a more open air feel. Let's not go comparing Kmart to Target now...

It's nice looking outside!!  I especially like the fact that it has the best Kmart logo, not the BigKmart (pylon and store).

Here's a picture of Kmart in Waterville years ago and today!

Yeah I don't like how most stores conformed to that tacky "Big Kmart" thing. Southbury and Watertown are the only stores left in CT which don't call themselves "Big K".

Those earlier stories kind of give a whole new idea to "drive-through" shopping!

:insane::insane::insane::insane::insane::insane::insane::insane:

What a stunner that new K-Mart is on the outside, but once you are inside, it looks like it's from the 1960's.  Does anyone know how old it is and why they went to the expense of making the outside look so modern while the interior (although it is the first 2-story K-Mart that I've ever seen....) looks kind of junky and rundown????

:huh::huh::huh::huh::huh::huh::huh::huh:

i dont see whats the diffrencie between Big Kmart and just Kmart its self

This should go to the Kmart bashing section but here it goes:
This Kmart looks clean and modern outside:

But look inside:  it's small, very old, has a low ceiling with exposed HVAC ducts and those damnKmart neons that make the store look yellow... and the famous blue squares on the walls, that's modern!

beachgal26

The only thing that gives it away that it is a current store are the prices!!

Here's the Big Kmart now vacant on the Nesconset Highway on Long Island. It's located in Lake Grove/Stony Brook, New York. I actually visited this location during it's operation way back in 2001...
