What amazes me is that McDonalds hardly has radically changed their logo at all while Burger King has completely changed its logo:o:huh:

yeeeep.
I was reading a McDonalds history timeline in a magazine we receive at work, Restaurants & Institutions. It was pretty interesting, lots of stuff I've never heard of. They also mentioned how some McDonalds are testing out their own Wi-Fi service at select locations, including the one near me:D.
I don't like Mcdonalds very much..I rarely ever eat there..Their food is really bad and their a little to childish. i know theyre trying to ket out of the "childish" image by killing McDonaldland a little bit back and making more "adult" commmercials, but until they ditch Ronald i'm still gonna count them as kiddish..Plus they make people fat and they dont flame broil their burgers like Burger King does. The only thing I EVER eat there are pancakes. That's it. heres one in canada
heres a McDonalds sign from 1960 at the henry ford museum. This was replaced in 1964 with the "golden Arches" sign, a bigger version of the infamous sign you see today, which came out later on, I think in the late 60's.
Our local McD's:roll:
a newer Mcd's
My local McDonald's, probably in the early 80's. It went through one expansion and two renovations.
My local McD's burnt down around 1999-2000. They rebuilt it and I think it looks worse than ever;).

I like McDonald's chicken sandwich, and the pancakes, fries, and hash browns, but that's usually alll I get there. And, Jag, maybe the bad food is just a Buffalo thing? heh Or has that happened to you at toher locations too?The one at the Dutchess Mall in Fishkill had bad food as well, while at other locatons, the food tastes great.

That's weird, because in 2001 someone burnt down a local McD's of mine when there were people INSIDE! But, thankfully, no one got hurt. They rebuilt, but now the restaurant doesn't have the cool old booths that were styled like cars. Plus, that was the place where I had my fifth birthday party!
I'm guessing this McD's is from the late 80's-early 90's

At first it was McDonald's. Parc Ronald is the Playplace named after Ronald McDonald.
Speaking of him, he recently got a makeover.

How many times does McDonalds screw up your order? How bloody hard is it to make a hamburger with only mustard and ketchup. This has happened at many a McDonalds I have gone to so it can't be the help. Do they not think I will check my food to see if it is done properly?

The first shot is the old McDonalds in Hudson (Greenport) - it sits next to the abandoned single theater and the site of the original Jamesway/Price Chopper. It is today a church (after having been an Italian restaurant for a few years (with several bomb threats during that time - certainly not good for business).
The 2nd photo is the current Hudson McDonalds at the corner of Healy Blvd & Rt 9 (kitty corner to BK) - a much busier part of town nowadays.
3rd Shot - Catskill McDonalds on Route 9W
4th & 5th Photos - Closed Ravena McDonalds - This one closed down a year or two back without much warning - I remember that even the employees were on TV and were suprised as well. There are no other McDonalds in the area - you have to go to Catskill or Glenmont to find one.
Last shot - McDonalds on Delaware Ave in Delmar - sits across from the old Albany Public building
here is the mcdonalds in nanuet ny on rt. 59 in the rockland center

The first photo is the location in Poughkeepsie (downtown on Main Street). This restaurant had an older location next door which has since been town down and rebuilt with an AutoZone.
The 2nd photo is the Glenmont McDonalds, which sits on the outlot of the former Grand Union/Ames Plaza at the corner of Rt 9W & Fuera Bush Road (which on my map is labelled NY Rt 910A, kind of a strange #!).
The 3rd shot is the newer McDonalds on Route 4 in North/East Greenbush (kinda right at the line).
The last 2 photos are of the (former) location on Route 4 across from Hudson Valley Community College. If you're saying "that's an unusual McDonalds design (Especially the front with the "Greenhouse") - you're right. It was a Burger King which closed, then later was converted to McDonalds. I don't know why it didn't do well (as it sits DIRECTLY across the street from the college driveway) - there are other fast food places as well, but when this was a BK students still used to drive to the next closest McD's in Wynantskill.

more mcdonald's in freeport.
First the Bennington location (Rt 67A) - they were originally next door (where you see the yellow Shell roof) then built a newer store here (replaced some other building).
2nd the Highland location in the JAmesway/GU Plaza.
3rd the Kingston location on Route 9W - smaller building.
4th the Kingston location on Ulster Ave - just the sign (one of the older styles).
5th is the Saugerties store on 9W South of the village - playplace was a later addition.
6th is the Saugerties location just off Exit 20 of the NYS Thruway.
7th is the Western Ave location just below Crossgates.
8th is the Wolf Road location.
9th is the Central Ave location just up from Westgate - this one is older and has been redone a couple times (once was a prototype for a recycled store using old foam boxes!).
10th is the Pittsfield (MA) location - corner of Rts 8 & 9.
11th is the Adams location on Route 8 - front view from Rt 8 and side view from Big Y lot.
Last is the North Adams location on Route 2
The top shot is the location in Cobleskill, on Route 7 in the main part of town. Fairly standard older building with the Playplace addition.
The 2nd shot (on the left) is a kind of bad shot of the Cooperstown one - it's in the plaza with the P&C on Rt 28 South of town. This one has an unusual tent-like covered area in front (where you could eat in warm weather).
The right hand shot is the Oneonta store on Route 7/23 in the West End. Another fairly standard building with the Playplace added on.
Last is the Oneonta store at the intersection of Route 23 & 28 (near the Southside mall).

Actually, that Latham Farms one only looks unusual because from the main road (Route 9, where you are) you're actually looking at the BACK of the building - if you pull in and take the photo, it would look more "normal".
By the way - the Boston Market down Route 9 used to be McDonalds before they opened this one.
Maybe Sidney has rules about design? I know ours here in Valatie is unusual due to some of the requirements added by the town.
I've seen a couple other of those ones built into a gas station (while travelling, can't remember where now) - probably made sense for that (smaller) area rather than a full size one.
Also - the Pittsfield one looks better now after a renovation due to a fire (about 1 1/2 yrs. ago) - it took quite a while to re-open - and now the Burger King down Rt 7 is closed due to fire - that one has been closed quite a while also. Maybe they need some more fire-resistant buildings!

a lot of places have done that, like the mcdonald's on south willow st in manchester (The restusarant was brown and not the retro look) was torn down 5 yeras ago and rebuilt into a more updated one.
there are no retro mcdonald's in new hampshire. the only one in northern new england is the one in brewer maine, I posted a picture of it. but the vermont ones are silver.
Here's the backside of the soon-to-be-demolished McDonald's in Unionville, Connecticut I took during one of my random photo shoots. There've been plans to go fourth in building a brand-new store which is supposedly (finally) underway. This is also the one my girlfriend works at :)
There are several shots here:
1. State Street (Route 5) Schenectady Location.
2. Glenville (Route 50) - The rear building is a new McDonalds, the front one is the former location.
3. Close up of front of new Glenville location
4. Close up of side of old Glenville location.
5. Closed Scotia Location (on Route 5 - main street).
Here are a couple shots of the Valatie (town of Kinderhook) McDonald's - a little clearer than previous ones were.
The first is the Route 9H side (this side has the drive thru, including the 3rd window that they used at the time this was built rather than the speaker - of course it is no longer used).
The second is a closer view on the Route 9 side.
(Both of these roads run parallel for about 3/4 mile here until you come to the "roundabout" - the Dunkin Donuts is closest, then McDonalds, then Stewarts/Trustco - all three have entry/exits from both sides).
As you can see, about the only McDonald's looking parts are the signs (the Route 9 side also has a ground level wooden sign which you can't see) - even then they are small compared to many.
Here's a McDonalds they're building in Milford, MA.
Kind of weird.

The one in Unionville is weird. A few years ago my family and I went to go there on Mother's Day I believe it was and they were closed.
The one on Queen Street (Route 10) in Southingtn was just remodeled. I haven't been in there since the remodel.
Here's a shocker. The beautiful new on in the Plainville Commons is owned by the same guy who owns the run-down one at the Bristol Centre Mall. The one at the Bristol Centre Mall is supposed to move somewhere else in the downtown area, but I haven't heard where they're moving too. My friend who lives in Plainville, but has seen the one at the centere mall was like "Are You F****** Kidding Me that they're owned by the Same guy?"
I didn't have to see "Supersize Me" to tell me too much McDoanld's is bad for you. I saw it happen to a friend of mine first hand. My senior year in High School (Class of 2000 baby!) one of my friends was the night manager of the McDonald's on Meriden-Watebury Road (Route 322) in the Plantsville Section of Southington. He was in my PE class and a couple months after he had become manager I noticed that he had gone from having a six pack stomach to having a small pooch gut. I remember he was told me he put on more than 40 pounds and his blood pressure and cholestrol skyrocketed after he became manager. He would eat several Big Macs a night. It's either eat them or throw them out.

Why is the New-Britain one temperarily closed? I remember my fascination with this one when it was Roy Rogers. Even as a child, I just loved any store/restaurant. The Roy Rogers closed, and I was happy to see something replaced it.
ALSO...
As already posted, the Newington McDonald's will soon close, be demolished, and rebuilt as a modern-retro style McDonald's. This was said to be the very first McDonald's in Connecticut. It opened in 1969 I think when Hamburgers were 15 cents each. Of course, I was born in 1989 when the restaurant turned 20. It's now 37 years old, and you can tell it needs a revamp.

Not entirely true. Since McDonald's is franchise-owned, not all stores push food on their employees. For all I know, some stores might actually make their employees pay for food (at least it's true at the Dunkin' Donuts I currently work at). At most, employees eat (everything) for free but downing a few Big Macs a night will no doubt cause one get fat. That just boils down to personal responsibility - I'm sure wasted fast food wouldn't be a crime :)
I also eat McDonald's once or maybe twice a week and I'm fine.
The dining area facing the back at the McDonald's in Unionville, Connecticut.
Here's the McDonald's on I-95 in Darien, CT. This is a rest stop McDonald's and it caught my eye as bizarre because of the early 1990's logo and green tone of the facade.
Here's a close up of the early '90s logo and green facade. This McDonald's did not have a dollar menu or the new "Snack Wrap". This store also had a chimney and jacked prices!
Here's a painted mural at the drive-thru at the Darien rest stop McDonald's which further proved the bizarre nature of this McD's. Note how the mural advertises "Super Sized" fries; now discontinued at McDonald's restaurants.

no drive through is bad.
The McDonald's at the New Brite Plaza in New Britain has been demolished. A new one will be built in it's place and should open this fall. I find it odd since the article metions the restaurant only opened in 1997. The owner is said to have managed the first McDoanld's in Connecticut, which was in Hamden in 1957.

I think they got their priorities Mced Up!!. BTW, what was the McDiner like??
The food was actually pretty good. They had sit down dinners like Meatloaf and mashed potatoes. You would sit down at a table and order your food from a red phone hung on the wall. The concept was a bit strange and as we all know, went away. They changed at least 6 or 7 locations to McDiners here in the tri-state and all have been changed back. A lot of money was wasted as the locations were shut down for a period of time to transform them into sit down eateries, only to be shut down and changed back.:warning:

The nasty Enfield (Elm Street) location has been completely demolished. The owners are in the midst of building a brand-new store. As we speak, it's currently an empty lot. When I was coming home last week from my Syracuse trip, the building was being torn down.
The one on Hazard Avenue on the otherside of the mall is another oldie with a brown shingled roof!

There might have been a building located there that was formerly a doctor's office, but the current building has always been a McDonald's since it was built back in the 1990's. Prior to that a McDonald's operated in a different building on the same spot.

I know that this was a McDonalds back into the early 70's at least and redone around 98 or 99. I ate at the old one A LOT growing up. Was just curious if there really was something there in the 60's before it.
There was a defunct gas station next to this McD's that stood there seemingly forever before they finally knocked it down. Its still a vacant lot . McD's put up a fence so that people who ate outside at the picnic tables didn't have to look at the decrepit gas station.
Here's the original McDonald's in Simsbury, CT on rt 44. Its from a video I shot of a Blizzard on March 31, 1997

My friends and I ate at this McDonald's back in January. It was the first time I had been there since the remodel because I prefer BK or Wendys. I like the new look, even though service there was horrible. It was Friday Night during the dinner rush around 530-545PM. They only had one register open and the girl running the register was also helping with the cooking.
I meant to post about this when I went there but I must've suffered brain damage and forgot all about it. Nick knows what I mean.
A quick McDonald's story. Back in January my friend Tim, his girlfriend Amanda, our coworker Mikey, and I had just come back from West Farms Mall. We went back to Tim's house and sat in the car in the driveway for a while talking. Mikey said he was hungry so we went to the McDonald's on West Street in Southington across from ESPN. We went through the drive in. Well out of the clear blue sky Mikey said to Tim "Tim you are my enemy." Tim stopped the car, pulled into a parking space, jumped out of the car, and tried to yank Mikey out of the car through the back window. Tim was ready to beat Mikey up. Tim finally calmed down and we just rode around in silence. Then we brought Mikey home.
This kid Mikey has no common sense. You never tell the person that's giving you a ride somewhere "You are my enemy."

I passed something today you don't see too often. On Us 19 in Clearwater Florida there is a Mc Donalds That has been vacant for about 8 years! It looks awful! The signage is long gone but there is no mistaking its a McDonalds. If I get a chance i will try to post a pic of it. I remember stopping in when it was open..I left without ordering it was the dirtiest McDonalds I was ever in. It was easy to see why it closed.
The dirtiest McDonald's I've ever been to is the free standing one on The Property of The Mall at Bristol Centre in Bristol, CT. It's dirty, disgusting, and run down. I ordered a soda once and while the server was handing it to me, she sneezed, I didn't realize it had gone into the drink and I got sick from drinking the soda. The manager was right there and didn't say anything to her. If I was in my right mind I would took the drink and thrown it at her. I haven't been back to that one since.
I could never figure out why that one was so run-down. It is owned by the Santacroce Family like several other ones in the area including a shiny brand new one (well now it's several years old) in The Plainville Commons in Plainville.
Now that the Mall-at-Bristol Centre has been ripped down, the McDonald's will be torn down and relocated elsewhere on the mall property by whoever buys the property and redevelops it.
I don't really care for McDonald's that much. I usually prefer BK. At McD's I like their Fish Sandwich better than the one at BK. I also like their chicken nuggets. But their fries suck really bad. They used to have good fries, but they changed something at least 8 years ago and they suck. I prefer the fries at BK. I also like the fact that at BK you can get Onion Rings instead of Fires. Why doesn't McD's give you that choice?
I noticed the same thing about their fries. They are like cardbooard now...no taste,,,hard...I wonder what happened?

Ahhh, McDonalds. This place is a hoot. Everytime I go my order is invariably botched. I mean how hard is it to make hamburgers no onions. OK, before this gets bumped to the complaints....does this place still do the birthday parties? I remember going to one years ago and they had reserved the back of the place for the party. Ronald himself put in an appearance and the guy playing him actually looked like his commercial counterpart. On another note I've noticed a lot of them have been being remodeled or rebuilt.
Did anyone know that the first franchised McDonald's in CT was in Hamden, on Dixwell Ave. Read that while at Barnes and Noble!

For some reason the one across the street from the ESPN Campus in Southington, CT is closed. There is yellow caution tape across the driveway. Maybe the health dept closed it down because I've heard stories about that place being very dirty.
Still nothing in the papers about why this McDonald's closed. The building is all boarded up and was repainted white. And all the signs are gone. All thats left is 3 flag poles.
Can you take a picture of it? Its rare to see a McDonald's closed up.
I'll sure as heck will try. Either my camera is messed up or it didn't like the 94 cent batteries I fed it. (picked them up at Walmart). I think I'm gonna have to break down and spend the $5.50 for an 8 pack of Duracells or Energizers.

Jon, that's the brand I picked up for 94 cents at Wally. I put them in my camera and went to take some pix for this website. They didn't work. The camera turned on. I pushed the shutter button and the screen goes to black and the camera shuts off.
Of course now my camera might be permanently out of commission since I just remembered I left it in the glove box of my car and there has been sub-zero weather in CT the last few days. *DOH*

I read in today's newspaper that they might close the McDonald's on South Main Street in Massena, NY for 3-4 months this year and completely remodel it. They closed one in Plattsburgh a while back for the same length of time, but they demolished it and rebuilt it from scratch.
We got a McCafe at our McDonald's in Ogdensburg, NY last year.
They just put a McCafe in my McD here in Riverview, FL (at BigBend and 301), they just opened it yesterday and they were handing out free coffee/hot chocolate.

In the summer of 1984, in San Ysidro, San Diego, California, the infamous San Ysidro McDonald's Massacre occurred at the McDonald's on San Ysidro Blvd. led by the deranged James Oliver Huberty (http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://crimefan.com/crimefan%2520images/james%2520huberty%25202.jpg&imgrefurl=http://crimefan.com/james%2520huberty.htm&usg=__7uhF6-hiPdsSdR-UypjqR-d-4i8=&h=122&w=187&sz=12&hl=en&start=1&um=1&tbnid=6RetC7az7XAe3M:&tbnh=67&tbnw=102&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dsan%2Bysidro%2Bmcdonald%2527s%2Bmassacre%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26rlz%3D1B2GGFB_enUS223US224%26sa%3DN), with three guns, claiming to be 'hunting humans.' Most of his victims were Mexican or Mexican-American.
The McDonald's closed, and was torn down, sold to the city and a memorial was built on the site, as well as a community college. One of the survivors of the incident, Alberto Leos, currently works for the San Diego Police Department. He was a former McDonald's employee who survived gunshot wounds.

yea this is the frist time i seen one with that look i klike it i might go back to it but its agood 15 to 30 mins from me
Yes, there is one near/outside of Indianapolis Indiana on the way to Louisville KY. I like the retro look of the old time McDonalds of the past. I have attached a picture of the original look that the new one is based off of.
Here is a color shot of the older looking McDonalds from the 1950's
There is a Retro McDonald's on the Berlin Turnpike in Newington, CT, which re-opened in January, 2007. Previously it was an old brick and mortar McD's that I believe was built in 1969. I went there many times as a kid. I think the Newington McD's is the only retro store in CT at the moment. I may be wrong, but I can't recall news of any newer ones opening in the state.
yea the one in worcster u has a dining room and a double drive up an a fake fire placee
There's one in Brewer, Maine.
I also saw a "Solid Gold" McDonald's when I was in Wisconsin recently, which was new to me.

There's a new throwback "retro" one on Newtown Rd. in Danbury right across from Stop & Shop. I believe it was built before the new/retro Newington one.
On the Northside of Indianapolis by Castelton Square mall they built this style
Its too small though as this area is very busy not quite sure why thay reducedits size Taco Bell did the same thing
yea this one was smaller thern the ornagle one on this proptey but to slove the crowds they added a second lane to ther drive up
Former West Street McDonald's Southington/Bristol town line directly across the street from the ESPN Campus. Restaurant closed down right before XMAS 08. Recently they covered up everything and painted it white. They also blocked access to the porperty with concrete blocks so I drove down a small unpaved road next to the site to snatch this pic. There's a For lease Sign with a phone number and mentioning 4900 Sq. Feet. The owner of this property must also own the empty lot next to the former restaurant as the empty lot had the same For Lease Sign and phone number.
inside the oxford ma mcds i think its a mess in it but this is the same town that alllowed a restaunt to serve tanted lobster go figure

There's also 2 versions of this commercial. One features 2 Fillet O Fish for $3.33. (That's the one that's airing in my area). The other is for the Value Meal for $3.99

Yeah, it's pretty bizarre! I actually saw it on television yesterday.
It did make me laugh though, unlike those Burger King commercials with the creepy plastic King getting in bed with people and whatnot, which just filled me with terror. :insane:
Here's a picture of McDonalds in Newington, NH. It has a set of old school arches on the street sign. The Manchester, NH location on South Willow Street had the same type of sign. The only difference was when the drive thru was added to the Manchester location they made it so you had to drive bellow the giant arched street sign!!
Sadly the entire restaurant and sign was torn down for a newer modern golden arched structure.
Another view of that Newington location:

311 Midway Boulevard, Elyria, OH - Was the only fully-setup BP/McDonald's combo that I've ever seen. The BP section closed within the last year, leaving just the restaurant portion active. They kept every special ever alive going - 2 Filet-O-Fish for $3.33, 20pc Nuggets for $5, $5 Angus Meals - on a permanent basis to draw in business. They tried to expand into the old Food Mart half by moving a few tables around, but they recently tore the whole thing down. I thought it was gone forever, but it's being reconstructed.
Here's what it looked like in the day via Google Maps, back when gas was $3.79/gallon!

I really hope for it to be replaced by a '50s-inspired McDonald's, just like the one in Green Bay, instead of those bland "shoeboxes" with gold awnings and that gold swoosh brow over the McDonald's wordmark. And, if they make it a '50s-inspired design, maybe they should incorporate certain deesign aspects of the Solid Gold McDonald's into the new design just for that location. I really hope they move Mac Tonight and his grand piano to the new location.
I've been to a McDonalds that looks really old in Hartford CT it's near The Institute of Living it's on the same street as IOL. It's on Washington Street. I think it was built in either the 70's or 80's I can't really tell. I sometimes go for lunch there.
They've demolished the old McDonald's in Terryville!
The sign reads they won't open until June. Dang I should've got pictures before they demolished it! It was old and 70's like it had a white fence with globe lights! IT WAS OLD!!!! :o

The new Terryville, CT McDonald's opened several weeks ago. There's even a billboard for it on Route 6 in Bristol just past the intersection with Burlington Ave. It's now open 24 hours.
The Bristol, CT McDonald's on Route 6 across from The Bristol Plaza is undergoing a major exterior renovation. I'll see if I can snag a picture or two.
The McDonald's on Queen Street in Southington, Connecticut is getting an extreme make-over. When they did a remodel a few years back there were a lot of problems and they got a lot worse.
Here's the new look of the McDonald's on Queen Street. Photo taken from the parking lot of Shoprite Plaza across the street. A lot of people on the "You know you're from Southington" Facebook Group don't like the new look.
Bristol McDonald's across from Stop & Shop Plaza got a similar new look. I tried to take a picture from the plaza next door, but some butt-head in a red SUV parked right where I was trying to take the shot from. (And why couldn't MC'D's be closed in Bristol like BK was?)
Many of the 1970's era classic roof McDonald's are getting that type of remodel last year/this year. The one in my town of Keene NH now looks similar to this as well.
I went to McDonald's today, and SpongeBob SquarePants Happy Meals have arrived!
The McDonald's in Roswell, New Mexico is UFO-themed, since Roswell was the home of the 1947 Roswell UFO Incident.
Here it is:

Attention everyone:
The McDonald's on the corner of Riverside Avenue and North Main Street in Bristol, Conn on the Depot Square Property (formerly Mall-at-Bristol-Centre) will be torn down by the end of this year. This is the one with the famous "M" shaped bushes. This McDonald's will be relocated to the other end of the Depot Square Property roughly where the Discount Food Outlet (former Fianst) once stood next to Dunkin' Donuts. Construction on the new McDonald's is supposed to begin in September and completed by the end of November.

I hate the new style of them...it doesn't look like a McD. It looks like a Starbucks..
The first photo, taken on July 31, 2012, is of a McDonald's on Dix Highway a block south of the Sears shopping center in Lincoln Park, Michigan that was remodeled into the current architectural style from the brown mansard roof style it formerly had.
The second photo, taken earlier that same day, is of another McDonald's (taken from a bad angle :-[), this one on Southfield Road (M-39) in neighboring Allen Park, Michigan that has the 1950's architectural style.
Most locations that are either opened, reopened in new locations, or renovated used the two styles mentioned in the previous post. I personally like the '50s-inspired architectural design because it is a throwback to a simpler time when hamburgers were 15 cents, and I also like the golden arches on both sides of the building that light up at night.
Many of the McD's here in CT still have the old Mansard roof. Many have been painted over the years from brown, to bright red, to a toned down light brown color.

They finally broke ground on the new McDonald's on North Main Street in Bristol, CT. It's being built on the former mall property opposite the Post Office. When the new one opens the one on the corner of Riverside Ave and North Main will be demolished and hopefully the can start redeveloping the former mall property.

I took a drive by the site over the weekend. They got quite a bit done in only a month. Sometimes when these stories come out about a groundbreaking on a new building they wait a while before actually doing something.
We have a new McDonalds that will open later this year in Bensalem, PA, at the Horizon Center complex, which main tennants includes 2 office buildings, Walmart, and Lowe's. The one office building is the former Easter State Hospital main building.
they moved the Mcds in my town, Plymouth NH, on Tenny MT Highway, it was off Exit 26 off Main st. the old one opened in 1988.
The new McDonald's on North Main Street in Bristol, Connecticut opens today at Noon. The outside looks cool. From the small picture on the Bristol Press's website the inside looks pretty nifty. This is a replacement for the one at the corner of Riverside Ave and North Main Street where they have the famous "M" shaped hedge. It will be demolished soon.

I heard Jake's was already building in Bristol. I heard they're going into 1/2 of the old Blockbuster on Route 6 in The Price Chopper Plaza. That's just 4 miles from this old McD's. People move into this old McDs hoping they'll get some of the 3,000+ ESPN employees to go there the problem is it's very hard to get in and out of the ESPN Property and they have their own giant cafeteria. Those 2 factors along with high rent are the reasons McDs closed.
Wrapshody Bistro was the first restaurant that failed there after McDs. - During the day it was specializing in wrap sandwiches served with wine and salads. (Yeah because the first thing I want with my sandwich is a glass of wine). And at night they served a different menu all together and were more of a bar.
The New Owners took over and renamed named it The Zone at Wrapshody. - These owners tried to make it an upscale Sports Bar. It was a major epic fail. They didn't want young, college aged people hanging out there. They wanted the middle-upper middle class working professionals. 30 years old and older. Another epic fail for them? They were often closed Saturdays during college football. You're a sports bar and you're closed for Saturday College Football? That's really smart.
The last restaurant never opened. They spent a lot of money renovating the place. (see the pictures in the link above). It was supposed to be an Indian Restaurant called Red Chili's. These owners were banking on it being successful based on the success of the Indian Restaurant on Queen Street next to El Sombrero. I don't know why Red Chilli's never opened.
McDonald's is aiming to be more healthy. A new option will be a side salad, a fruit, or vegetable instead of French Fries with your Value Meal. They also will be marketing a healthier Happy Meal promoting Apple Slices, and Milk, Juice, or Water with the Happy Meal instead of Soda.

McDonald's will no longer be serving Heinz Ketchup. Part of the reason is one of the capital investment firms that recently acquired Heinz is also part owner of Burger King.

In the CNBC documentary, they were showing old footage of a Mcdonald's in their early days and we could see an employee in a kitchen and he was pouring Hunt's ketchup. Maybe that partnership dates from back then!
Not sure what their supplier is now. Redpack is a major foodservice supplier for ketchup and other condiments.

How could a McDonalds across from ESPN possibly fail?
I mean, Mike Golic comes to work there every day. ???
I only know of two Mickey D's that have ever closed here in the Burgh.

ESPN has their own cafeteria.
ESPN has very strict security. It's hard to get in and out of the campus.
ESPN took over a road that used to bring traffic out right by the site.
You want to know how strict security is at ESPN? You need to show your ID to visit a co-worker in another part of the building or even in the next cubical.

Quite a few Walmarts have Subways. In CT: Bristol, Southington, Wallingford, Waterbury, and even the now closed New Britain location had one and they were one of the smallest Walmarts in CT.
I know one Walmart that was a Caldor for a relatively short time (seven years). The Caldor had a Nathan's hotdog stand, but then the Walmart had a snack bar called "Wal-Mart Cafe", then that closed and was replaced by a Subway with a bonus Nathan's menu, but now the Walmart has no food service whatsoever and now has a nail salon (owned independently from Walmart?) in the snack bar space!

The nail salon probably leases the space from Walmart like Subway does. They have a nail salon at the Waterbury, Connecticut store next to Subway. The one in Waterbury was probably the photo studio.
Now that you mention it, the Rocky Hill store has a Subway as well. Perhaps a location thing.
The McDonald's at the Walmart in Marlton, NJ closed and was replaced by a Subway that moved to that site from the shopping center across the street, which ironically was anchored by Kmart and later Sears Essentials. Now the center is 100% empty. The former A&P (which didn't last long) there was later a Super Fresh which lasted 30 years with one or two very minor remodels but closed in the last year or two.
Around here the Heidelberg and Bethel Park Walmarts have Subways,
while the Super Walmart in West Mifflin has a McDonalds.
McDonald's has a McCafe Strawberry-Banana Smoothie. It tastes the same as the Strawberry-Banana Smoothie at Burger King. At the McD's in the Plainville Commons in Plainville, CT and at the one on Queen Street in Southington a Large Strawberry-Banana Smoothie is cheaper than at the Burger King on Queen Street. At BK it's $4.03 with tax. At McD's it was $3.61 with tax.

It appears McDonald's may now be showing off local pride in their advertising-just a few minutes ago as I watched the 10 PM newscast on WJBK Channel 2 Detroit, I saw a McCafe muffin advertisement that began with an old map of Michigan and the surrounding states. Then a cooking mitten comes up, flips the Lower Peninsula around and shows the back of the cooking mitten-red with the McCafe logo. Later, after they showed the muffins, there was a screen showing a white Lower Peninsula outline next to the McDonald's logo. Lower Michigan then materializes into a cooking mitten outline.
Pretty unique, I might say.
Many people may overlook this, but Walmart wasn't the only superstore that McDonald's had affiliated with-for many years up until the late 1990's, McDonald's operated full-line locations inside several Meijer stores. They had locations in the Meijer stores on Pierson, Center and Hill Roads in Flint; 28th Street and Plainfield Avenue in Grand Rapids; Jenison, Saginaw Highway in Lansing, Muskegon, Okemos, Royal Oak and Wyoming-all in Michigan. They may have also been a McDonald's inside the Meijer on Alpine Avenue in Grand Rapids.

Most McDonald's locations inside Meijer stores would have been on the balcony level at the front of the store across from the checkouts. The one on Hill Road, however, was located at the back of the store instead and that space was demolished when the grocery area was remodeled.
There was a McDonald's at the Port Plaza Mall on 320 Adams Street in downtown Green Bay, Wisconsin from 1982 to 2002. The mall closed permanently in 2006, and has been torn down along with the neighboring Days Inn hotel, to make way for a new corporate headquarters for Schreiber Foods. I remember eating at that McDonald's back in the 1990s.

I think Wal-Mart selling the McKids clothing line came first, then the McDonald's in their stores. Now a McDonald's in Wal-Mart is becoming a rare sight seeing how some Wal-Marts replaced McDonald's with Subway.
They're going to be demolishing McDonald's on Route 5 in Wallingford, Connecticut and rebuild on the same property. It will be slightly smaller, have 2 Drive-Thru Lanes, and no playground.
http://www.myrecordjournal.com/wallingford/wallingfordnews/6597660-129/mcdonalds-in-wallingford-to-be-demolished-rebuilt.html
That's what they did with my local McDonalds. Although the store they built is slightly bigger
than the old one.
And likewise they did away with the Playland. And added a 2nd. lane to the drive-thru.
Interestingly from the décor you'd never know it was a burger joint.
An alien landing in the parking lot, looking at their décor, would assume that this
was some sort of a Farmers Market that sold fancy upscale coffees.
Not a Big Mac nor a Quarter Pounder in sight.

McDonald's actually uses several different building types for new and remodeled locations, even though they are all pretty much identical with some slight, but noticeable, differences between each type.
For example, McDonald's remodeled two of their three Lincoln Park, MI stores into similar styles that incorporate a yellow arch above the main facade. A picture of one of these that I took in 2012 is on page 19 of this thread (reply #436, dated April 26, 2013).
On a side note, the McDonald's at Eureka and Richmond in Southgate (the second McDonald's in Michigan) should be whipped up into shape soon. Their last remodel was a decade ago (in which the previous building was replaced with the current one) and the Burger King a few blocks west was recently remodeled last year.
Don Thompson runs out of time to turn McD's around. I think he did a lot of things right, but it will take years for the changes he made to be reflected at the restaurant level.

Okay. This former McD's was two different restaurants that didn't last long. Then someone bought it and spent a lot of money renovating it for an Indian Restaurant and the Indian Restaurant never opened. The City of Bristol Police Department has been using the parking lot for DUI Checkpoints.
Now as of 20015 this former McD's is becoming a Mexican Restaurant. We'll see how long it lasts. They're going before the town of Southington for a liquore permit.
What did they do to the McNuggets? They changed the taste of them. They taste awful now. It used to be one of the only things on their menu that I liked.

I remember Sears selling the clothing in the late 80s or early 90s.
Most of the Wal Marts in my area have converted their McD's to Dunkin Donuts. Waterford CT is the only one I know of that still has a McD's.
The Walmart in Utica, NY still has a McDonald's:

Oneonta, NY too I believe.
Went thru McD drive-thru at lunch, and it looks like the long rumored menu reduction/simplification
has occurred.
Although I was saddened to see they had dropped the Southern Style Chicken sandwich from
the menu. That was a very serviceable Chick-Fil-A knock-off at a much better price.
They're also offering the seasonal fish/large fries any combo of 2 for $4 special (OK, it was the $3, then $3.33 special in past years).

Arby's and BK are running 2 for $5 Lenten fish specials, and their sandwiches are bigger. Will have to taste-test all three and report back.

The town must be really strict for its restaurants. Not allowing a drive through is strange. They must also have some type of zoning regarding exterior designs. There's no way Mc D's would allow the owner to run a restaurant designed like that, unless the town had some strict regulations.

Note that the post above states it was a former Deering Ice Cream location (which to me looks quite like a Friendly's) so assumably the building was existing when McDonalds opened.
Not that there aren't other unusual designed McDonald's as well, some due to local rules and some just the environment they are in (like 2 story locations in New York City and at least one with a walk up window, since in the middle of a block there couldn't be a drive thru). I don't know how the one at 125th & Broadway snuck in, though - looks just like you picked it up from small town anywhere and plopped it in the middle of the city.
The Gallery mall in Center City Philadelphia still has a McDonalds in the food court, even with 7/8 of the Gallery is vacant so tits owners can bring in upscale tenants, like Century 21, which is located in the former Strawbridge & Clothier flagship store.

This McDonald's in Erlanger, KY is interesting for a number of reasons. In front of the store are large, single-pane glass windows with the old "beveled" McD's logo on them. I haven't seen them anywhere else before. There is no room for a play area.

Based on the design, it has to be an older location - seems that many of them (at least in the cooler areas) were built with basements (after all, the first training area was in the basement of a restaurant out near the HQ). Also perhaps for extra storage as the property looks to be on the smaller side?
The front windows look like something they might have done to add a little extra space (not much but it might seem like more than with a solid wall) and open up the building at some point.
Also an interesting way to make what would be a boring blank wall a bit more attractive (and not something that most locations would have, unless they also had a need for such a wall).

Joe Rodriguez is the new owner of the McDonald's at Townline Square Plaza on South Broad Street in Meriden, CT. It's his 10th McD's restaurant.
From The Meriden Record-Journal Newspaper:
New owner of Meriden McDonald’s has ‘ketchup in his veins’
Published: May 23, 2015 | Last Modified: May 23, 2015 10:54PM
By Mary Ellen Godin Record-Journal staff
MERIDEN â€" Joseph Rodriguez earned the nicknamed Schmear Man because he was good at putting blood on the slides in the laboratory at the New York Institute for Technology.
Rodriguez also worked at a family McDonald’s since age 10, and supported himself with two jobs while in college.
In a lesson about the value of a medical education, a professor asked the class:
“ ‘What do you want to do with the rest of your life: flip burgers at McDonald’s?’ †Rodriguez recalled.
“I said ‘what’s wrong with that?’â€
In his third year of college, Rodriguez considered the years of schooling ahead of him to make a decent living in medicine, versus the skills he had already acquired. In a solid reversal of his professor’s intention; he switched majors and dove headfirst into the burger business.
“I have ketchup in my veins,†he likes to say.
Rodriguez closed on his 10th franchise last month at Townline Square on the Meriden-Wallingford border. He has other McDonald’s operations in Derby, New Haven, West Haven, Canaan, Plainville, Bristol and New Britain.
“I realized I never left McDonald’s,†he said at the Townline Square McDonald’s this week. “ I am a people person. My mission is to have passion for what we do. I decided to go the business route. I went to the McDonald’s Hamburger University in Chicago and got a degree in hamburgerology.â€
At the university, Rodriquez studied the food business, dealing with the public, marketing and more.
As Rodriguez acquired restaurants, the McDonald’s brand struggled to redefine its brand to an increasingly health-conscious buying public. It introduced salads, fruits and vegetables, even an artisan chicken sandwich. The restaurants themselves redesigned their interiors with cafe seating and lighting to attract value-conscious laptop users while keeping family-friendly prices. But it’s not certain the strategy is working.
“They certainly are doing a whole lot right now,†said Konrad Gessler, a project manager with the New England Consulting Group of Guilford. “There seems to be a lack of a strong strategy. They are really being squeezed in all directions. It’s tough being a QSR (quick service restaurant) right now. McDonald’s has the opportunity to bounce back, it’s just a very strategically complex time in their industry.â€
Gessler said the best advertisement McDonald’s produced romanced the Big Mac with the assurance it would never be a veggie burger.
“It was speaking to what McDonald’s does best,†Gessler said.
To Rodriguez, that means finding its place in the community.
He joined his family in buying a McDonald’s in 1991 near the Bronx Zoo. They held a rodeo event at the restaurant that caught the eye of the McDonald’s corporate office, which offered the family another store in New Haven. The family later decided to sell its New York stores and expand in Connecticut.
Rodriguez bought his first McDonald’s in West Haven in 2000, followed by stores in Derby and the Westville section of New Haven. He underwent renovations in West Haven, and completed three rebuilds in other towns valued at $4.8 million in four years. The New Haven McDonald’s has a game room and meeting space, used by the local Board of Alderman.
McDonald’s corporation helped with some of the financing on the rebuilds.
After the renovations, he bought the McDonald’s in Canaan, and fell in love with the area, he also has restaurants in Bristol, and Plainville. His company headquarters in Southbury is where he oversees the 10 stores, a director of operations, two supervisors, 112 managers and 500 employees. Work weeks are 60 to 80 hours.
Rodriguez believes in strong community connections the same way he thinks about his faith â€" both are essential to success. Rodriguez and his wife Anna adopted their first child in 2007, and Rodriguez became a Christian. Soon after they learned Anna was pregnant with twins. A daughter followed in 2009 and in May 2013, they adopted another child.
“In the Rodriguez family, we try to make it appeal to family,†Rodriguez said. “Our community is family. You have to be able to look at your business and say what do I have to do to cater to my town and my community.â€
Rodriguez hosted Three Kings Day parties in New Britain where local politicians, including Mayor Erin Stewart and store executives dress up as the three wise men to dole out toys for local children. More than 1,000 toys were given away.
During National People Day he gave away 480 turkeys to all of his employees.
“It’s a little gesture, but it means a lot,†he said.
He recently recorded a commercial for Telemundo at the Meriden store announcing a special on egg-white McMuffins.
Rodriguez said the egg whites, lettuce and tomato are fresher than what’s in the local grocery store and McDonald’s has stepped up to offer what is healthy.
“It’s great to be able to give people choices,†he said.
With 10 stores, McDonald’s considers him “a large operator,†he said. The cost of franchises vary based on traffic and revenue.
He grins when asked if there are any more deals for more stores in the works.
“I’ll accept whatever the Lord gives me,†he said.
Former Detroit City Council president Monica Conyers is suing the McDonald's at Detroit Metro Airport (perhaps the one I and ShopkoFan mentioned for serving Pepsi?). She visited this location, which is owned by Jamjomar Inc., a franchise primarily owned by former Detroit Lion Jim Thrower, on New Year's Day, just before boarding a flight to watch her husband's swearing into office. During that visit, she cut her finger while pulling a chair back.

Weird. For the past several days I've heard the all-day breakfast thing has been an epic fail but in today's Hartford Courant there was an article about how successful they've been.
They sent me coupons for a free Large Soft Drink and Fries

I don't drink coffee so for me this would be a good thing - having a Coke or Root beer with my Egg McMuffin.
That's what makes me mad. So many breakfast specials at restaurants whether it's a Fast Food Place like McD's or BK or a local diner include coffee as part of the special. Breakfast specials everywhere should include your choice of beverage - Coffee, Tea, Softdrink, Orange Juice (or any other type of juice), milk, etc.
See, I am on the opposite side of that.
I gave up drinking pop around five years ago, so I am always
ordering either iced tea or a coffee as a substitute with my
fast food burger meals.

The 2004 Mark Knopfler song "Boom, Like That" is about McDonald's founder, a milkshake mixer salesman, Ray Kroc, who bought the restaurant from its original owners, Richard "Dick" McDonald and Maurice "Mac" McDonald, and turned it into the fast-food chain we all have a love-hate relationship with today.
An upcoming biographical film about McDonald's founder Ray Kroc, known as "The Founder" is scheduled for release on November 25, 2016, starring Michael Keaton as McDonald's corporate founder Ray Kroc.

Isn't that the approach that Chick-Fil-A uses, or used in the past? My sister worked at one for a few years and I remember seeing lots of non-traditional kids' meal freebies on offer.
Not sure how pleased kids would be with a small book to read as opposed to a plastic trinket to annoy family members with. I've never really noticed them being thrown away.
This is a very unusual McDonald's at Rochester and 13 Mile in Royal Oak, Michigan. Yes, those are mansard roofs, but not of the types they've traditionally used. This one opened in 1984.

Not to mention some of those Happy Meals are worth a lot of money like the Beanie Babies and the Disney figures that came with a video box.
I think there may be a legal issue with donating the Happy Meal toys to Goodwill.
Most of them feature licensed characters. McDonalds could possibly have a contractual obligation
with the copyright holder that they will NOT donate them and will, in fact, destroy any unused inventory
when the promotion ends.
We had certain product at Ames which fell under that category when I was handling
disposition of D&D. Made me sick to toss it in the compactor, but those were the terms
of the legal agreements with the vendor. I was not allowed to do anything else with them.

Most of the thrift stores where I live have no problem doing it. I've seen bags with a whole bunch of used happy meal/kids' meal toys in them. Once the toys are in the consumers' hands, it's up to them where they will end up next. Copyright issues are of no use once the toys are in the hands of the consumer (I believe this is where the Copyright Act of 1976 comes into play).

I suspect they were referring to toys that never got handed out (like when they change from one promotion to another).
However we did get a box full of mixed items last year as a donation from a McDonalds so apparently not all of them (the toys or the stores) are included.
Not much the Government or Disney lawyers can do when a consumer who received a toy in his
Happy Meal donates it to Goodwill. I believe however that bulk donations of unused stock by McDonalds
are contractually barred.
Not sure if this had been covered or not, but it turns out that the icky eyebrow-style is officially called the "Arcade" style. Found that in this article (http://www.bizjournals.com/dayton/news/2012/06/12/mcdonalds-rebuilding-restaurant-on.html)
The largest McDonald's in the United States, located in Orlando, Florida, has a video arcade on the second floor.
The McDonald's in Vinita, Oklahoma, which used to be called the Howard Johnson Glass House Restaurant, was originally the largest McDonald's restaurant, and its dining area extends over the Will Rogers Turnpike. That restaurant recently closed for remodeling, which modernized the structure, and is now known as the Vinita Archway. Other tenants found in the Archway besides McDonald's includes Subway, a gift shop, and a Kum & Go convenience store.

In front of the former McDonald’s space is a sign for Harry’s Eatery that invites shoppers to head to the first floor for a variety of coffees, sandwiches, baked goods and smoothies. Harry’s Eatery owner Harry Patel, who has been on the first floor next to Hannoush Jewelry for 15 years, said he is considering a move to the food court.
“I’m thinking about it,†Patel said.
A mall spokeswoman said she couldn’t speak to the reason behind the McDonald’s closing.
“While we are sorry to see them leave the center, it presents us with the opportunity to bring in a new dining option,†said Westfield marketing director Katherine Bolas.
Patel said he has a dedicated customer base of seniors, many in wheelchairs, who have come to rely on getting a coffee for $1. But they also have told him he could get more exposure in the food court.
“Nobody knows I’m here,†he said of his first-floor location.
Not sure if this was mentioned, but the McDonald's in Auburn, MA closed a few months ago. What makes me sad is that it had a HUGE ass Playplace that rivals the like of Chuck E Cheeses'.

Sad...just sad. The one that used to be across from Rolling Acres Mall in Akron had a sunken dining area and a similar fireplace in between the ordering area and the dining area. I wish I had thought to get some photos of it, as it is now a vacant lot :'(
The interior of that restaurant is very attractive.
No reason on earth it needs to be replaced.
McD did a similar thing to a store near me. They eliminated the playland, and from the
décor of the new store you'd never know that the place sold hamburgers.
If you landed here from Mars and took a look you'd think it was some sort of an organic
farmers' market that also sold fancy gourmet coffees.
Caving to lawyers and the politically correct Health Nazis IMHO.
McDonald's had pulled its most recent Happy Meal toys the "Step it up" wristband toys due to reports of the toy burning kids and are probably going to put in whatever toys the restaurants have left over from past Happy Meal promotions.
But I wonder what does McDonald's do if they're out of Happy Meal toys, like have no toys at all?

True, but I was talking about if McDonald's had no toys at all, not even left over ones?
To me it seems that most recent "leftovers" in Happy Meals are books and the SpongeBob straw topper toys.

Dislike. I've been trying to visit a lot of the older mansard-roof locations I've come across for this very reason.
It is getting harder and harder to find locations with traditional mansard roofs.
Another mansard roof location in Green Bay (McDonald's #91) was replaced with a '50s retro McDonald's with golden arches on the sides of the building a few years ago, located next to a historic McDonald's single arch sign from the restaurant's original location which was in 1959.
The dining area at this mansard roof loacation had a generic 1970s/1980s fast food restaurant interior common at most McDonald's locations before it was demolished in the early 2010s.
The location in Covington, KY was demolished a couple of days ago. Can't wait to see what the new one will be like. ::)

Stopped in McDonalds this morning for breakfast.
I noticed that they are rolling out an artisan sandwich program.
The customer gets to choose the type of patty they want (beef, fried or grilled chicken),
what toppings they like, the type of bun, cheese, etc. etc.
Not sure that's a smart move. McDonalds famously simplified their menu awhile back
because of food waste costs and issues with speed of service. Now they are heading
in the other direction.
If that's not strange enough, I overheard the manager tell another customer that
soon they will be serving steak!

McDonald's new Signature Crafted burgers include Maple Bacon Dijon; Sweet BBQ Bacon and Pico Guacamole.
By Samantha Bomkamp - Contact Reporter
Chicago Tribune
QuoteMcDonald's has launched a line of premium mix-and-match sandwiches it calls Signature Crafted, a pricier option it hopes customers will bite onto despite their focus on value.
The Signature Crafted line features three topping choices: Maple Bacon Dijon (grilled onions, thick-cut bacon and Dijon sauce); Sweet BBQ Bacon (barbecue sauce, bacon and crispy onions) and Pico Guacamole (avocado, pico de gallo and buttermilk ranch sauce.) All come with white cheddar cheese. The topping options are available on a burger patty or grilled or crispy chicken. The new line, which rolls out nationwide this week, costs around $5. The timing of the rollout varies by market, and some restaurants in Chicago offered the sandwiches earlier than this week.
The Signature Crafted line was developed after McDonald's discontinued Create Your Taste, an entirely customizable sandwich platform.
Speed is a critical consideration for McDonald's and other fast-food chains rolling out new sandwiches, as too many options can bog down the kitchen and slow the arrival of a customer's food.
But McDonald's may face another problem with the unveiling of Signature Crafted: Customers may not be willing to fork over $5 for a burger. The world's largest burger chain said in March that the higher-priced versions of its value option, McPick2, didn't work. The Golden Arches also said it has lost millions of customer visits over the past five years, since it first moved away from the dollar menu.
Premium burger options have had little success at McDonald's. The company has tried a number of options from the Arch Deluxe to Sirloin Burgers that it eventually discontinued.
But CEO Steve Easterbrook says he's confident that customers will flock to the new options, which will be available with cooked-to-order fresh beef by the middle of next year. To balance out the price of a meal, McDonald's earlier this year cut beverage prices, offering $1 soda and brewed coffee. It also offers frequent promotions for free fries and other discounts through its mobile app.

The McDonalds in Mount Lebanon, PA is currently closed for remodeling.
This is one of the oldest locations I know of here in town. I remember my parents
bringing me there as a kid in the 70's. It had been remarkably unchanged since
that time.
The changes will be radical. The mansard roof if gone, replaced by the current
boxier store design. I can see track lighting and some very elaborate video boards
inside as I drive by.
I was not a fan when the local Burger King did a similar remodel and I am not crazy
about this. I don't want my burger joint to be upscale and elegant. I want it to bring
back good memories of sucking down grease in the 1970's.
Hopefully they can do something about the drive through, which was very tight.
Not sure if they can though. The place is wedged pretty tight against a hillside.
Two McDonald's in CT owned by The Rodriquez family are being remodeled inside and out. - Corner of East and Maple in Plainville and the one on West Main in New Britain. The one at the corner of East and Maple has been a dump for a long time. They also have a lot of rude employees. I've heard them using foul language and making racist remarks.
A unique mansard roofed McDonald's in Plainville, CT across from the AMC theatre that hasn't been remodeled yet!
A later version of the mansard roofed McDonald's w/o those stripes in Rockville, CT!
The McDonald's location in Monongahela had just been remodeled too and the major changes that you will notice if you drive by it that the outside design is the boxier design that TheFugitive had mentioned regarding the Mount Lebanon location that he said was being remodeled at the time of his post. The last time that any real major changes we're ever this location happened back in 2000 when they just demolished the entire building and rebuilt it from the ground up.

The one a bit further south in Greenport (Hudson) NY is still this design as well. I still need to get down there, considering I need to see the finished EG Walgreens, plus the switching of storefronts down there in Greenport with Walgreens moving into the Eckerd/Rite Aid.
I don't know how ALDI could take that space, considering these new ones are quite large, such as in Ilion, which they built their new one next their old one, and it's MASSIVE.

I don't know how ALDI could take that space, considering these new ones are quite large, such as in Ilion, which they built their new one next their old one, and it's MASSIVE.
I think the idea was that by combining the former cleaners site and the property that the house had (both of which probably go back a bit further than the current McDonalds), there would be enough room for the new McDonalds towards the right side and the new ALDI more towards where the current McDonalds is, with the space in the middle providing parking that could be used for either.
Of course, it wasn't too long after this was proposed that Price Chopper up the road closed up, and ShopRite from the plaza behind the Burger King across from McDonalds moved to the Price Chopper spot, leaving a larger empty building available. That has also been mentioned as a possible spot for ALDI to move to, so that may be part of the holdup in any progress at the McDonalds site.
Not much else to see on the drugstores - Walgreens just moved into the Rite Aid (some remodeling inside, but outside not much beyond the name change (red Walgreens signs on the building, but they left the blue Pharmacy signs from Rite Aid and Walgreens plates for the Eckerd style road signs) and the (now) former Walgreens building left empty. So far, they didn't even try to move the Walgreens road sign (which has a digital board on the bottom) to the Rite Aid site (which has just the older changeable letter boards).

I was just in the West Mifflin, PA Super Walmart and noticed that the
McDonalds store near the front exit has been removed.
In it's place is some sort of green organic café. The prior store lived in a little
cubby hole at the front. It had a limited menu. They were also in the prior
Walmart store that stood down the hill, where there is now a Sam's Club.
There are 2 stand-alone McDonalds stores within a half mile of this Walmart.

Actually the McDonald's was removed from that Walmart location some time last year. Personally I think that McDonald's decided that the stand-alone locations nearby were better for them in the long term since they own the properties those locations sit on.
Along Thomaston Ave. in nearby downtown Waterbury, CT.
Advertising " BILLIONS AND BILLIONS SERVED" on the surviving late 60's Golden Arches sign. Remains slightly lower on the list for the impending "Experience Of The Future" remodel come 2020.

Had to go to the Post Office this morning. It did not open till 8:30.
I had some time to kill so I went to the McDonalds up the street to hang out
and have some breakfast and some coffee.
I am in my mid-50's. I was the youngest person in the place by at least 25 years.
Attempts to reach a younger demographic appear to be failing.

Might just be the time you were there, since kids would likely be in school or headed there by that time, and many others would be on their way to work and if anything only stopping to grab something, often via a drive thru and not going inside.
In fact locally, that seems to apply even in busier times - it is often faster to order by going in than to wait in the drive thru line.
Here you often see quite a few teenagers in there after school hours (probably since the restaurant is almost across the street from the school campus, so it's an easy spot to grab something between classes and after school activities, though the Dunkin Donuts next door gets a fair amount as well).
McDonalds is rolling out 2 new sizes of Big Mac.

In addition to the traditional Big Mac they are adding a Mini Mac with just one patty,
and a Double Big Mac that has four.
The Mickey D's in Rockville, CT (nearby my house) is getting renovated. Opened in fall 2004 to replace the older McDonald's nearby in town.
The Rockville McDonald's will be entirely CLOSED starting Sunday, through Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. This will give them time to install a 2-way drive thru. When the new drive thru is installed, it will be a new system for those employees that they will have to go through and two lanes definitely create more pressure than 1, so it may start off a little slow as the employees adjust to the change.
The lobby at Rockville McDonald's is also going to be closed entirely for the installation of the Kiosks. Their lobby isn't expected to reopen until sometime in April. Deming Street and especially the Vernon location is definitely probably going to feel the affects of Rockville store closing for four days, it is also one of the busiest stores, if not the busiest.
So for those who regularly go to Rockville, this is a heads up for you, they will not be open starting this weekend starting Sunday until Wednesday.

The progress of Mickey D's renovation in Rockville CT as of April 21.
As it stands now, they completed the renovations that was long overdue for that one particular location. That process didn't take too long. It is now fully reopened. The interior is also new as well. It is now fully McBoxed!20220504_161519.jpg
As of this year, the Troy-Schenectady (Latham) and Central Ave. (Albany) locations are still bearing their classic appearance.
The McDonald's in Bristol, PA along Rt-13/Bristol Pike finally got renovated. The only one's I know of that still look classic is Edgewater Park, NJ along 130 and Trenton, NJ on Cass St.
The last McDonalds in Downtown Pittsburgh is slated to close next month.

The franchise holder has opted to not renew the lease. The number of office workers commuting to Downtown has plummeted post-COVID as many continue to work from home or on hybrid schedules. Plus this location cannot have a drive-thru which anymore accounts for much of a fast-food restaurant's sales (the original Wendy's location in Columbus closed a couple of years ago for that reason).
Back in the 70's KDKA radio talk show host Roy Fox got married at this McDonalds in a wedding ceremony which was broadcast live on his show. When I last worked Downtown in 1999 there were three McDonald's locations open. The other two have closed primarily due to drug and crime issues. The one on Smithfield Street had been operating more or less as an open drug market with ongoing police incidents.
