this mall has Macys Nordstrom and Filenes but it clsoedlast year i think something mopved in there idk much about this mall i havent been hear in a loooong time i think there might be a Saers and a JC Penny there too idk

filene's did close. the list shows no nordstrom. it said filene's was 160,000 square feet. the mall opened 1987. there was a warner brothers store. is this mall more posh?

i got mixed up i was thinking of a diffrent mall ther eis a macys ther ei think something opend in the old filenes space its really just a normel mall not really posh i havent been there in awile

the mall opend in 1982 actley its ancors are Macys Saks Fifth Avenue and it had a filenes witch closed last year

filene's closed because sales were not as good as the company wanted them.

Macy's - 250,000 square foot - 2 floors
Former Filenes - 170,000 square foot - 2 floors
Saks Fifth Avenue - 75,000 square foot - 2 floors
No store moved into the Old Filene's Department Store. Mall has levels 3, 4, 5, and 7 according to the Mall website. Floors 3 & 7 have mall entrances but are small and only have a few small stores but do have esculator, elevator, and stair access to the other levels. Not sure what is on level 6.

Anyone know if there is a cinema next to the mall as depicted in the photo above next to Macy's but in the same building? It looks like its an old marquee and probably has a street side entrance.

it would be nice to get a bloomingdale's in the old filene's. add something new to stamford.

that filenes clsoed in dec 2004 ive been going to this mall for awile now and yea a bloomingdales would be nice to add to the mall or maby a JC Penny or a Nordstrom

hey nice pics but just to let u know that store beeing guttne dand torndown that was not JC Penny that was Filenes which closed in dec 2004 i dont think JC penny was ever in that mall

The store that is being demolished at the Stamford  Mall was a JCPenney before it became a Filene's. It was a JCPenney from the time that the mall opened in 1982 to about 1993 or 1994. The May Company spent about a year gutting the JCPenney space for the Filene's store. It cost them about $15 million. Unfortunately, not even ten years later, the store closed due to poor sales. The Filene's buidling is now being replaced with a lifestyle center. The link below shows a rendering of what it should look like.

It's an open-air concept. Look it up on the web. It's like turning the indoor mall inside out. The stores face a sidewalk/street, like a main street setting. The Stamford Mall is supposed to have between six and eight tenants ranging from 4,000 square feet to 40,000 square feet, including restaurants and other stores.

how is this mall I have never been it? I heard a bloomingdale's was in stamford and closed in 1990. I AGREE THAT nordstrom or bloomingdale's should come wehre filene's was (IT would have closed anyway due to the merger) and they would fit the area because Stamford is high class. kohl's would not do because it is an off mall department store.

The only reason why they are not putting in another department store is because they want to "open" the mall up. In other words, they want to allow for more natural light to go into the existing mall and at the same time have street level restaurants for the nearby businesses. I agree that a bloomies or nordstrom would work well there. This mall is truly messed up. The mall itself starts at level four (levels 1-3 are parking as well as levels 6-Roof). The mall owners thought that the open-air center was a perfect solution. I disagree. By looking at the above pics it is obvious that they need to remodel the ENTIRE mall and possibly add a third department store.

they have 2 ancor stores saks and macys i really dont think they should make it a life style center just put a bloomingdales or a nordstrom or soemthing the only resion why i said kohls is because kohls has a hadfull of stores that ancore in malls but replacing a ancore store is not the bestthing for a mall that can kill a mall


and i also think they should redue the outside of the mall to maby get rid of the tan bricks or paint them or something rentvated it thats what the mall needs they dont need to teardowen a fromer ancore store just to make space for the mall thst what can kill a mall bescies bloomingdales would fit in the mall with skas as a upscale ancore or some outehr dept store wwould fit liek sears or nordstrom or something

omg wow im suprized that it was still there even whe it became filenes that jc penny hasent been there since teh early 90's btw nice pictures i ahvent been to this mall in awile i remember it use to be filled with criam mugging stabings somoen got mudred there i believe back in the late 80's or early 90's but from what i know now it has cnaged but yea i havent  been there in like 5 years its verye simaler to the mall in white planes which also had a JC Penny at one point the store clsoed in 2001 and became a sears latter that year that mall opend in 1985 i believe
