I:bounce: thought it would be appropriate to create a special page dedicated to the original first mall in dutchess county, the Dutchess Mall. If there is already a page I appologize and will gracefully talke this page off if possible. Many people know that the Mall was a very outdated 1970's style one story shopping center with about 35-40 store fronts. The Mall did great all through the 70's and early 80's until the South Hills Mall was built and officially took the place as the "Mall" to shop at! Once this happened it dated the offical slow death of the Dutchess Mall. By the early 90's 3-6 store fronts were emptied, and mall management noticed they could not find stores to replace the businesses who left. Then the big blow hit the Dutchess Mall a small to medium sized fire did significant damage to the then Jamesway anchor store closing it for over three full months. After the fire the stores interior was repaired, but never remodeled which didn't matter much because only a short time later Jamesway pulled the plug and went bankrupt. Once this happend the end became clear, and approximately one store a month closed or relocated out of the malls property. When Service Merchandise relocated to the South Hills Mall the mall to my opinion officially died. The mall was not closed to the public however until 1999. From 1999 to 2004 the Mall sat basically abandonded except for a giant super tri-state flea market which inhabited the old Service Merchandise. Until recently the mall stood with many hopes of a remodel and restart, and with many ideas but no actions. Now, the mall faces a fate with a bull dozer to be demolished to make way for a new home depot. The Mays Property which Mays and Jamesway called home will not be touched as well as the badly aged old Service Merchandise store. These two stores are going to look silly surrounding the orange corperate monster "The Home Dufus" haha. Well, at least the last of the mall will keep the spirit alive. And remember when ever you think of your childhood shopping memories in the old mall and maybe feel like you gunna shed a tear remember the rose of the mall, and it in its hay day, and think darn those were the good old days. Hey Everyone! I have a funny pic to give everyone a good laugh for a second. Here is a picture of some of the Collectors Trucks I use to collect, that are the chains that use to be in business at the Dutchess Mall in its Hay-Day. So I call this picture the Dutchess Malls shipping and recieving crew... hehe :) Be Well! :roll:

PS= Sprawl-Mart is not supposed to be in the pic I put the wrong truck in the shot I meant to put in the Service Merchandise Truck. Sorry. :)

the only thing you missing is service merchandise heh i have some pictures of teh mall i went there in april im upset that home depot is tearing it down but there keeping up tthe old jamesyway and service merchandise

Hey Everybody! I was surfing the net yesterday, when I realized that I have not been to the Newburgh Mall in over 5 years. I then decided to go search and see if they had a web site, and they did. When I found it, it clicked, I noticed a ironic similarity to the Dutchess Mall in a picture they had posted of the Newburgh Mall. The thing that caught my eye was that the mall has a logo on top of a "rose" or "flower" just like the Dutchess Mall had. That really made me think was the Dutchess Mall made by the same developers that made the Newburgh Mall. If you look at the site and click on directory you will see in the left corner a pic of the layout of the mall, in your head remember what the Dutchess Mall's layout was and you'll see they are almost exactly the same. The only main difference is the remodels and updates that the Newburgh Mall got that the Dutchess Mall didn't causing it to self destruct. i wish i was able to go inside it when i was there but it was all fenced off but the old service merchandise and jamesway was not

jamesway left in 1995 and service merchandise left in 1996 or 1997 after that the mall still stayed open  in 1999 the old service merhcandise became a flea market and thats what keeped it open for teh rest of teh years to come latter on they removed teh jamesway logo and sign but nothing ever moved into there

Hey Everyone! I am really happy everyone is enjoying talkiing about the mall, and I am reading some great posts. To answer you guys question, about if I have any inside photos of the mall, I do. I deffinitely have up to a dozen pics from when the mall was in its hay-day, peek and even closed (closing) in its last days. I worked for a vendor at the mall when the Flea Market first opened, and the mall's last stores were just leaving like Radio Shack, Charter One Bank, The Piano Store, That Barber Shop, and Puff & Stuff. I was able to catch some photos of the mall, remaining stores, and old closed spaces, to get a general idea of what the mall looked like. I also have flea-market pics, and old family photos of when the mall was still prosperous. The problem is that I have misplaced the shoe box I use to keep those type of misselaneous old photos. When I recently moved I misplaced it. I will have to keep searching, and as soon as I find the pics I will post them for everyone. Well, thats all for now... Peace :D:rolleyes::roll:

Dutchess Mall is now gone my friends. Only the old(and gutted out)Service Merchandise remains, as well as the Jamesway(the interior(now exterior) mall entrance for the store, still had the Jamesway log(got a pic, don't worry)). Here's proof my friends. Home Depot commencing...

I'm not really sure. The website of the flea market says it will open back up after the construction, but I've also heard differently. The building was gutted though. I guess we'll have to wait and see what happens...

here is the dutchess mall in fishkill new york (off rt. 84) as of march 25, 2006. it is becoming a home depot. it has a huge old abandoned place and an old looking mcdonald's and the sign says dutchess mall.
