Yesterday I was at Remus Farms in Hobart, Indiana, and I saw a bunch of these green shopping carts with scratched out logos. I am attaching some pictures of them.

Black end gates, post-facelift body style with a 2000 date of production? Definitely Ames units.

Yes, and rusty enough to be from the time period.  These look like the real deal.  Nice find!

I had a feeling I was on to something. It makes sense as Ames did have some stores sort of close to me.
