A judge in Grand Blanc, Michigan (my old stomping grounds) has sentenced people convicted of shoplifting at a local Walmart to provide free car washes to Walmart customers as their punishment.

Walmart will provide the water and materials and the convicted shoplifters will wash the cars in the parking lot starting in the Spring.

The recently elected judge said that he was shocked to see the level of retail theft occurring which will cause shoppers to pay higher prices, or potentially result in the loss of their Walmart itself.  So he is sentencing the shoplifters to wash their cars for free as a method of repayment.

It's creative, I'll give him that.  Although it does put me in mind of that line from Seinfeld where George is trying to sell their sitcom pilot, with a plot where a judge orders the driver of a car who hit Jerry to become his butler, to a Japanese TV executive.  He looks at George and asks "is this customary in your legal system?

Apparently now it is.

Now this is just hilarious. I'd love to see how this goes. I could see this not ending well.
