Giant Eagle selling Get-Go convenience stores

Well I didn't see THIS one coming.

Giant Eagle has agreed to sell their Get-Go chain of convenience stores and gas stations to Canadian convenience store operator Couche Tard.

The press release says the sale will allow Giant Eagle to focus on their core supermarket business.

This is kind of a stunner as Giant Eagle has aggressively built Get-Go in this area to compete with Sheetz.  The move seems to indicate that all is not going well for their core grocery business.

Couche Tard is French for "Late to Bed".

This is a sharp turn because just a couple of years ago they were all-in on GetGo.
