People’s United Bank acquires United Bank closes 18 branches in CT

Yet another bank acquisition in CT. People’s United will close 18 branches where there are United Bank overlaps. Stop & Shop branches will stay open due to leases and contracts with the company. One that may have gotten overlooked is in Colchester. Stop & Shop has a People’s inside, and right in the same parking lot is a United Bank which is not slated for closure.

Down in Groton and Waterford, customers of Webster Bank were alerted United Bank was purchasing their branches due to consolidation are now being forced to switch to yet another bank. 3 in a year! The Waterford branch is slated for closure as well due to People’s being across the street.
