After 7 Seasons ABC has canceled The Chew. It will be replaced by a 3rd Hour of Good Morning America.

The sudden departure of Mario Batali (whose legal troubles continue to mount) must have been a factor in its demise.

It makes me wonder if non-O&O ABC affiliates have the option of airing the third hour of GMA or replacing it with syndicated programming or local news...

There's a lot of anger about this of The Chew's Facebook page. Most people would rather them cancel The View. And people are posting links to ABC.COM to submit emails telling them not to cancel the show. I know I was surprised when Chef Michael Symon made the announcement on his Facebook page. (I believe they're making an on-air announcement today).

I'm thinking maybe the hosts know more about his "activities" than they let on. Sadly though, what Mario is accused of is not uncommon in the restaurant industry. I've heard many stories in my day (in my day? I'm in my 30s) from females who say that when they have worked in restaurants that their male bosses liked to "play grab ass".

I think they would have to have some other option - it would be kind of odd to have Good Morning America running from 1-2pm (which is when the Chew runs in this area)...

Before The Chew launched they had for several weeks "Good Afternoon America" in the 1PM-2PM Eastern slot.

mixedday

The new hour will be 'GMA Day'. It's actually a nice title, and better than ABC resurrecting 'Good Afternoon America'. I suppose Strahan will get a raise and be getting big bucks at ABC, but ABC will save money using GMA than running 'The Chew'

It will be hosted by Strahan and Sara Haines. I was kind of hoping ABC would give Lara Spencer the show and call it 'Lara!'   :-)

Apparently also Tamron Hall is in works with ABC for a daytime show, but it will be syndicated like 'Katie', and presumably fill the 2pm eastern block on it's owned stations but not until 2019 (not sure if Fall 2019 or earlier).

It's always interesting how NBC and ABC recycle each other's former talents.
