A game was played here in Pittsburgh on Wednesday night that was one for the history books.

The Pirates (who are out of playoff contention for all intents and purposes) were playing
the Dodgers (who have 90 wins already and seem a sure-bet to cruise into the World Series).

Dodgers pitcher Rich Hill had a perfect game going into the 9th inning.
The Bucs' Trevor Williams had pretty much matched him.....giving up 8 hits but
managing to strand 11 runners.  The game was still scoreless going into the 9th.

There were many outstanding defensive plays.  Both the Pirates' Josh Harrison
and the Dodgers' Chase Utley made highlight reel diving plays at second base.

In the bottom of the 9th. Jordy Mercer hit s ball to third base that frankly I could have fielded.
The Dodger third baseman booted it.  Error, perfect game gone.

Hill managed to retire the side and still had a no-hitter going into the tenth.  Josh Harrison was the first batter and planted a home run into the left-field stands for a walk-off win.  The Dodger left fielder dove three rows deep trying to catch the ball, and appeared to injure himself against the wall.

Thus Rich Hill threw a 9 inning no-hitter and still lost the game.
The only other time that has happened was in 1959 when the Pirates'
Harvey Haddix actually threw 12 perfect innings in Milwaukee before losing
the game in the 13th.

Wednesday's game was the first time in the 130+ year history of Major League Baseball
that a no-hitter ended with a walk-off home run.
