Probably a continuing trend from 2015 of more smellish store chains closing or scaling back operations.

It was unofficially announced a day before Christmas that TigerDirect is winding down operations (closing its last 3 B&M stores and discontinuing web operations in the near future). Apparently another technology company bought the company out for its business division and has no interest in selling to consumers anymore.

online shopping is getting store, more and more retail outlets will close, especially mall locations.

More Sears and KMART stores will closes. Maybe Penny's too. If this happens in Connecticut maybe Boscov's will open a 2nd Connecticut location.

Ollies Bargain Outlet will open more locations in Connecticut.

ACME will open more supermarkets in Connecticut.

Glad to hear Meijer is once again edging closer to Pittsburgh.

I suspect Sears/Kmart and Pennys will again close large numbers of stores.
I expect some major mall closings to be announced.  I suspect Century III will be among them.

I expect online retailers like Amazon to continue to drain business away from traditional
brick-and-mortar stores.

And I predict that the job of setting planograms will CONTINUE to SUCK!   ;D

Correct. Give them a few more years to actually enter the Pittsburgh market though.

Avon, the store will be at the southwest corner of Nagel Road and Interstate 90. Approved in 2015. Opening most likely will be in 2017.

I haven't seen any construction happening over here on that new Meijer. They need to put Middleton Road through first, and then they'll likely begin construction. (It's not getting an entrance off of Lear Road.) Menards is supposed to be showing up somewhere around here, but I'll be damned if I know where it's going. Cabela's is going to open in Summer '16, and the new Levin Furniture/Mattress store should be opening soon. Bet you $20 that Mattress Firm takes over either the Linens-N-Things-turned-Levin's space or the old Ethan Allen space in Avon Commons. With as quickly as they're expanding - Elyria has a brand new one by the large Walmart and the new Levin Mattress down there, and Amherst has one across from THAT Walmart - it's only a matter of time before Avon gets one. (Heck, throw one into the old Walmart or BB&B over at Midway, too.)

On the subject of Mattress Firm, why are they popping up like payday loan places, and usually in pairs about half a mile apart from each other? North Olmsted has two. Mayfield Heights has two. I've dubbed them the Check$mart of the mattress industry. Also, why are mattresses the new trend in retail? There are, like, seven different mattress stores, now, on top of being able to buy them from wholesale clubs, home decor places, and actual furniture stores. I know people need places to sleep, but, come on, it's getting out of hand.

I don't know what to think about the future of Sears/Kmart. They seem to continue to hold on, but haven't really progressed at all. It's hard to tell if they will announce major closures in 2016, or if they will ever go out of business entirely as a company. The Kmart I go to seems to do well, but they never have the help, and maybe they could get by with that if only their registers were updated. They are SOOO slow, and the things the company make the associates ask you takes up time. I don't see them ever getting new systems if the future of the company is in the air.

As far as other companies, we know about Macys. Maybe JCPenney will announce a few closures. Barnes and Noble has been announcing closures. I can't think of many retailers that would announce closings this year.

I'm hoping CT sees a few new grocery store locations. Maybe we'll see a few more ShopRites in the coming years. Maybe another Big Y. Wondering if Acme will expand north in to CT.

I have to say.....my last few experiences shopping in a Sears/Kmart store have been extremely pleasant.

Order online, ship-to-store and pick-up in your car is the bomb!
If only their brand is not so badly tarnished that they can't be rescued.

My biggest complaint is that their Shop Your Way points program is WAY too complex.
Even their own cashiers do not understand it.   And Kmart is still overpriced on every day
consumable items.

I love Shop your Way!!! They keep on sending me surprise points (basically free money) and if you expect to be making a big purchase items that are free after points always crop up so you can keep on buying those items until you have enough points then buy the item you want. Plus they have the partners program where they match your purchases at places like burger king and you get an equal amount of points. I have bought a lot of thermals when they gave me points..

I think Florida will be having some stores going out, but not as bad as in other parts of the USA. I think Publix will continue to open stores in Florida and maybe Kroger will return to Florida. Connecticut will continue to lose stores...
