After four unsuccessful years Delhaize is finally pulling the plug on its quasi-hard-discount grocery banner

Some of the Bottom Dollar locations most likely won't become an Aldi location due to an Alid being nearby.  Example is in Bensalem, PA, where there is a Bottom Dollar Food and a Aldi that are both on Street Road.  The Bottom dollar Food location is a former Shop n' Bag, and the Aldi is a brand new build location.

Was wondering about that.  Drove by one on my way in and saw no signs of an impending GOB sale.  Though last time I was in I chatted with a cashier who told me if they want to work for Aldi they are all being forced to re-interview.

That's the way it is lot of places when they get bought out. In 1996 the Edwards Supermarket in Southington, CT got bought out by Shaw's. Any Edward's employee had to interview with Shaw's if they wanted to stay on.

End of the line for Bottom Dollar Food

January 5, 2015 | By Gina Acosta

It's official: Bottom Dollar Food will close its 66 store locations in the greater Philadelphia and greater Pittsburgh markets by Jan. 15 and retire the banner's operations.

In November, Delhaize Group â€" the parent company of Bottom Dollar Food â€" announced the sale of Bottom Dollar's stores and associated lease liabilities to ALDI Inc., which has expressed an interest in growing its U.S. footprint.

Aldi has not said whether it will re-open any of the former Bottom Dollar locations following the closures.

Upon the closing of stores, Bottom Dollar Food will offer every associate severance, and eligible associates will be offered career transition services.

"We want to thank our associates, customers and communities for their support over the past four years," Gene Faller, vice president of retail operations for Bottom Dollar, said.
