Cougars are hot!  They remind me of the Ford version of Hyundai Tiburons!

HoJofan206

The last bodystyle of the Cougar 1999 to 2003 was a foreign car that Mercury imported and slapped their name on it.
Kinda like those Mercury Capri's of the early 1990's.  Anyone remember those "jems".  :insane:

HoJofan206

Thank goodness the Chevy Cavalier is FINALLY gone.  Let that poor excuse for transportation be gone.  It wont take but a few more years for them to all be off of the roads because they are suck crappy cars!!

HoJofan206

If GM execs were smart they would copy Ford's idea with the Mustang and bring back the Camaro and Firebirds in a modern 1960's look.  That is just my opinion....and it is a pretty good one!  :insane::insane:

HoJofan206

I liked the Mercury Capri's that looked liked the Ford Mustang's.  Those were sharp looking cars.  When and why did they drop those?

Ford Country Squire. I currently drive a 1981 Country Squire. Its not the one below. Thats a 1991, the last year.

HoJofan206

I remember the old "Country Squire" wagons....seems like we had a boxy 1982 "woody" version back when I was a kid.  Lime green with wood panels....it was a similar shape to the car used in National Lampoo's Vacation filmed in 1983.
That car was a fuglied up version of a Country Squire called "The Family Truckster".  That car sure was U-G-L-Y!

Datsun never went under, they just changed their name.

HoJofan206

A few of the cars you listed are still being produced.  The Ford Ranger pickup still excisists.  All be it WAY overdue for a makeover it is still around.  (The current Ranger dates back to its last model update in 1993).

Additionally, the Mitsubishi Elclipse and Galant are still around in model year 2007.

I got a good laugh when you mentioned the Yugo's.  Man those cars were a joke!!  :insane:

Zayre88

I think that the Olds Aurora and Alero were great modern cars that GM could have saved and sent to other brands like Chevy, Buick or Saturn.

The Grand Prix name will be gone when replaced by the G8.  Ford will bring back the Taurus and Sable names to replace the Five-Hundred and Montego. (two recent names that will soon be gone!)

HoJofan206

If GM sales do not increase, dont be suprised to see the Pontiac and Buick nameplates dropped from the GM line alltogether (Just as Olds was dropped).

Here in Connecticut 3 GM Dealerships have closed either completely or partially in the past two or three weeks.

Schaller Auto of New Britain shut down it's Chevy and Cadilac Division at the end of January. (Their non-GM division remains open)

Southington Chevy shut down on Friday.

Town and Country Auto Group of Middletown also shut down on Friday.

One of my neighbors had one of these cars when I was a child.  It was rather odd looking.  We (as kids) didnt think much of it until it showed up in the 1985 movie, "Back to the Future".  Then we all wanted to take a ride in it.  :insane:

HoJofan206

I hate to say it but one finds it difficult to feel sorry for General Motors when they (The 1980's) closed many production plants in Flint Michigan only to move the jobs to Mexico.  Today, many of General Motors cars are produced in Canada.

In a strange twist, MANY Toyota models are produced here in the United States.  Here locally, In Princeton Indiana the Toyota Tundra is produced.
