Wow they come to town and run the local video stores out of business, just to be shuttered themselves.

I am surprised Blockbuster is still around..with Netflix and Redbox, they have been killed on movies. The only thing keeping them afloat has been video game rentals (same with Hollywood/Movie Gallery)...and I guess there really isn't much profit made there either. I haven't been to a Blockbuster in years...I think the last time, I paid over 4 bucks to rent a DVD. (Now I get them for 99 cents from the Redbox machines..and usually completely free with a free movie code)

I'm surprised that "Blockerbuster" is still operating in the Toledo, Ohio area... the big video rental business around here is "Family Video" and they do quite well. In fact, they've been looking for new managers to open new stores...

Family Video always clean store, nice employees, and videos can been found in-stock...usually.

The Blockbusters here are usually located in less-than-good parts of town, or around Family Videos. Movie Gallery is another popular video rental place.

As for the fate of video rental stores.... I don't see the industry dying out completely. Even with services like Netflicks and Red Box, we still a society of "instant gratificiation" that wants stuff right here, right now. You also have to factor in people that don't have credit cards, access to computers, etc. Even "Video-On-Demand" services offered by cable companies can't match video rental stores... theres a 4-8 week delay on new releases...

While I don't believe that the industry will die out completely, I do think that we'll see a good "thinning out" of stores and companies. I also believe that with chains leaving markets, that mom-and-pop video rental stores will make a come back.

Well, I'm sure they would only phase out their retail stores and keep their online services going.
