I see you did another short trip, Dan. Interesting to see a few of those -- especially that new one in Salisbury. I did a Live Maps search today for all the stores in Pennsylvania and it appears York is the only one remaining as a brown/rainbow store. I also see you made it close to Lancaster/York -- did you make it by the York store for an update?

Have you seen Frederick, Maryland? It could be a brown-roofed store.

I did not make it to the York store. the one in Salisbury opened in the 1980s.

Well here is the Oklahoma breakdown..

Oklahoma City South TRU-built in 1979-was a brown until early 90,s and recived the traditional white and rainbow look. 40,000 sq ft

Oklahoma City North TRU built in 1981-was a brown, and still has a brown picture on google earth i think. but it was remodeled in 2000 with the blue store front, pic is on live. 43000 sq ft

Norman(OKC South) TRU- built in 1996-has the newer large glass store front. its on live, 28,000 sq ft.

Oklahoma City BRU-built in 1996 I think, was a babysuperstore, then TRU bought it. 30000 sq ft

Tulsa West TRU - built in 1983 i think, 40k sq foot. a mid 90's store front was given to this store in 1995.

Tulsa East TRU - built in 1980, 50k sq ft, a big store, has the mid 90's look as well.

Tulsa BRU - built in 1998.

Hey all new here and noticed you guys like the old school toys r us stores. Well lets just say I am from the south and know of a few good looking ones that are like the clay store. I dont know how to save live images but i can tell you what town to search under and someone can post it. I have been to most south west stores including texas, oklahoma and arizona. Check out the WACO, TEXAS store, its it better than the horseheads or clay store, the KRU is actually seperated with doors on the inside. The Killeen, Texas store is another old brown store as well. Northpark Mall which is on central expressway in dallas is an odd store as well, its a 2 level TRU. the KRU is on the bottom level, but it has closed down. Also if you can find pictures, the Goodyear Arizone store is sweet, its a super Toys R Us, opened last fall.

I saw what WAco Looks like and it looks like Horseheads!   And the one in Killeen has nothing as it has no images!

Which ones in Oklahoma are brown? and I know the Pheonix ones are remodeled and I know they did not enter Pheonix until 1987 and I went to the one in Alberquerque on Indian School RD in 1995 and it was brown then (I saw that the brown roof was cheaply repainted blue through the image server)

I love old school Toys r us' sooo much. I worry York PA was harmed (I went there in 2006 and it was brown then) as it got a BAbies R us in the store and could have been remodeled, for fear there are no more BRown TOys r us' in PA and there are likely none in NJ.

also wanted to mention the Topeka Kansas store is a good looking brown store as well, its on live

toys r us closing in Westport CT http://www.westportnow.com/index.php?/v2/comments/19015/ and it said its becoming a TJ Maxx, but thats not a great fit for the area.

Toys R Us at 1850 Post Road East near the Fairfield line has begun a store closing sale. An employee said the store will be closed by Jan. 30. T. J. Maxx is expected to take over the prime retail spot.

That would make sense because TJ Maxx owns Homegoods.

look this up 4575 W 38th St + indianapolis in on www.virtualearth.com and its a Toys r us that closed in 2006!!! its brown! it opened in 1984!

Here's the Indianapolis (4575 W 38th St.), IN one

This is one of the strangest stores I've ever seen -- and in such a bad location. The store's frontage faces a woodland area! Even the back of the store (which faces the road) is well tucked in there. I can see why it closed. Poor, poor access -- even the company kind of neglected this one with such a chapped parking lot.

There's another one in Indianapolis that has a brown/pastel colored sign but is remodeled. Also check out the one in Evansville, it looks like this one -- has TWO brown roofs on the front and sides!

Here's a real oldie in Ontario, CA on North Mountain Ave. It has four roof ripples. It's been raped since: painted roof, removed rainbow entrance and newer sign.

There's actually two stores in Ontario, this one has reportedly been here since 1970! It opened along with other stores in Van Nuys (remodeled but has weird double glass entrance/exits), Anaheim (Garden Grove - vacant), Covina (remodeled), Torrance (remodeled).

1970!!!!!

OH about my journey to the Iowa TOys r us', Wheeling WV, and delaware, I Drove the whole night through to get to them and managed to stay awake that whole time and even managed to stay awake through 9 pm that day (I stopped at 9 pm because I did what I Wanted to do or that day). only one of those times I needed coffe because I left right after being out in the 5 degree cold weather for 9 hours.

SILVERDALE, WASHINGTON.

The road sign has brown/pastel lettering. Anyone know what year this one was built? I'll say 1986-1988? It has double entrances on the front. Appears to be the only vestige of old-styled one left in Washington.

Dan, I don't know how you endure those long trips (do you ever stay at hotels?) but I look forward to your findings. I will be passing through Boardman, Ohio (on the way to Columbus) this forthcoming Spring Break and hope to grab many, many photos of Boardman -- the last true original in the state.

Have you seen the Montgomery, Alabama store? It appears to be the only store left within a 100 mile radius and it's shown on Live Maps as still having a brown roof and rainbow stripes -- even has a brown sign and Jeoffrey on it! I wonder if it still looks like that...

KNOXVILLE, TENNESSEE at Knoxville Center.

This one's gotta be 1988 or 1989. The sign is weirdly placed behind the store, but visible from that nearby road.

Kids "R" Us in North Olmsted, OH, was in the Great Northern Plaza in the space currently occupied by DSW. It was renovated once-upon-a-time with the rest of the plaza and had a unique facade, but when the merge of TRU/KRU happened, it was left empty until DSW gutted it and built their store there.

Here's a picture of what KRU used to look like: http://www.placesintown.com/north_olmsted/kids_r_us_pg.jpg

Babies "R" Us used to be a BEST store.
