worry when I photographed the exit saying Exit of this Toys r us store (It was vintage too, if a police officer saw that would he have confiscated my camera? And made me loose my pics. I had 1,000 pics in my memory stick by then. I AM SUPER WORRIED IT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED OR WILL HAPPEN WHEN I TAKE PICTURES SIMILAR!

um..why would an Officer do that? You're not doing anything illegal

They might motion for you to move along or swat you away or question you but I suspect most officers don't care unless the store has called the police on you. Even if they called the police on you, the officer won't be taking your private property or deleting pictures. They just can't do that for no reason (without a lawyer on your side, especially).

Here's some final pictures of the closing Toys 'R' Us in WESTPORT, CONN. I took these today.

They are selling all the fixtures in the store so I asked to purchase the "Thank you" and/or "Welcome" mats at the door if I would leave my name and number, I would get a call back. An hour later, the store manager called me and informed he that he can't sell any of the store's official property. Too bad, eh?

These pics are sad to see, I remember shopping here as a kid in the '70s when it was Child World and had my first post high school job here in the fall of '88 doing overnight holiday stocking I came back in '93 after the change to TRU for the holidays again, but in later years really haven't been by much as it's kind of off the beaten path for me.

NASHUA, N.H. -- Taken Jan. 26, 2008.

Doesn't look like it's ever been remodeled, since 1991. Seems like most of the stores in New Hampshire look within the mold of this one (with the rainbow tiled look).

I had the Opportunity to check out the Toys 'R Us in Clay NY. This is after seeing it there when I occasionally when up in that area.

As of 1/26/08, the Exterior is still the Old School Style. Having some time on my hands, I decided to go inside and check out the Interior.

I guess I was a bit disappointed with the Interior, as it had been updated to an extent, but did like seeing the Old School Shelving, and many of the aisles set up exactly the way they were in the Toys 'R Us near me before the remodel. Especially the Gaming Section.

The whole experience was like travelling back in time, and I recommend anyone visiting this store if they're in the area.

Nice to know Clay is still rainbow-striped. It seems many stores are getting repainted with just a handful of ones that retain the stripes and old image. I remember before I went in May 07, I called the store and asked them if it was still old-school. The woman at the counter actually had to go outside and look!

About the interior, when I went inside back in Summer 2006 you wouldn't believe it but they still had the old aisle signs up. Then when I returned in May 2007, the store was upgraded a bit.

Albeit, the shelving is still supermarket styled and there are still ticket slips for video games and electronics which is a rarity in itself.

The store is amazingly retro and I hope all the publicity I gave it on my website compells whomever runs operations at that store to know how special that store is and preserve it before it gets a ho-hum white job all over.

I hope to go see the York, PA store before it gets attacked or whenever we get some finer weather.

Did you take any pictures, powersbt?

I didn't have my Camera on me. Had no idea that I would be up there eatting at the Olive Garden let alone visiting that Toys 'R Us. I had my phone on me, but not a big fan of Camera Phone Photos.

Hey all new here and noticed you guys like the old school toys r us stores. Well lets just say I am from the south and know of a few good looking ones that are like the clay store. I dont know how to save live images but i can tell you what town to search under and someone can post it. I have been to most south west stores including texas, oklahoma and arizona. Check out the WACO, TEXAS store, its it better than the horseheads or clay store, the KRU is actually seperated with doors on the inside. The Killeen, Texas store is another old brown store as well. Northpark Mall which is on central expressway in dallas is an odd store as well, its a 2 level TRU. the KRU is on the bottom level, but it has closed down. Also if you can find pictures, the Goodyear Arizone store is sweet, its a super Toys R Us, opened last fall.

I saw what WAco Looks like and it looks like Horseheads!   And the one in Killeen has nothing as it has no images!

Which ones in Oklahoma are brown? and I know the Pheonix ones are remodeled and I know they did not enter Pheonix until 1987 and I went to the one in Alberquerque on Indian School RD in 1995 and it was brown then (I saw that the brown roof was cheaply repainted blue through the image server)

I love old school Toys r us' sooo much. I worry York PA was harmed (I went there in 2006 and it was brown then) as it got a BAbies R us in the store and could have been remodeled, for fear there are no more BRown TOys r us' in PA and there are likely none in NJ.

Welcome Natureboy and thanks for pointing those out.

Dan, I am planning a visit to York, PA in March or April (or whenever the grim weather lets up). I will call first before I go to make sure they havent remodeled it. I must've checked those locations at the same time you did - Waco, TX looks very similar to Horseheads except that one has a slightly different border around the striped planks out front (is it still rainbow painted?!). They must've been built the same year.

Disappointed that the others he mentioned, one hadn't any birdseye and the other was remodeled. I as surprised at that two-level one. That one looks like York except supersized.

Also Dan, have you seen the one in Montgomery, AL? That one looks like a real oldie.
