Does anyone else hate smoking bans in their stores? It seems there is smoking at most convenience stores. The staff at Eckerd seem to smoke a lot, at least in the back room. They did at my local Drug Emporium too.

Marriott banned smoking in all their hotels in late 2006. I remember not too long ago, people might sit at the tables in the lobby to use their laptops and smoke.

Growing up in the 70s and 80s I don't ever recall smoking being allowed in any store. Only places were restaurants, fast foods joints and coffee shops. Having working in a restaurant, I find that many smokers are very careless with their cigs. Burn marks on tables and carpeting were quite common.

Ct passed a smoking ban for all bars and resturants about 4 years ago and it is the best thing they ever did.  It is nice to go out to eat without people smoking around you, and the no smoking areas were a joke.

Jersey did it to a year to 2 ago and all the bars around me still smell like crap. When  you walk out your sweatshirt or shirt smells burnt. It sucks.:(

In PA, the smoking ban is in effect for all restaurants, and for bars who has food sales above 20% of their yearly income. And the casinos can only have 25% of their gaming floor as "Smoking"

Smoking was allowed at Wal-Mart snack bars well into the 90's. In the 70's, it was at Kmart too.

When did PA ban smoking in Restaurants?? I remember smoking in a McDonalds in the late '90s. Thought that was the coolest thing at the time. Nothing like having a cigarette with a Big Mac.

Philadelphia banned smoking in all restaurants a year ago. Pennsylvania did a few months ago.

I never knew McDonald's ever allowed smoking, except maybe in Japan like I read on the Web. :insane:  :holysh:

The McDonalds would have been off of I-81 First Exit into PA from NY State. Great Bend, PA.

I read in an old issue of my local paper that our Newberry store was destroyed by fire in the 1950's when a careless shopper was in the toy department on the second floor and dropped a lit cigarette onto the counter.  Some dolls that were wrapped in cellophane ignited and the fire spread throughout the whole four-story building.
