These photos from the town of Killingly, CT  website show the Dayville Stop & Shop when it first opened in the spring of 2008.  Did it along with the other stores opening at the end of the old logo period get their inside repainted not long after their Grand Opening?  Did they have a Grand Reopening soon after their Grand Opening, with a new logo?  Or were the changes made quietly, just to prevent still new stores from looking "outdated"?

The five year old Super Stop & Shop in Bristol, CT is slated for a remodel later this year or early next year. A vacant Bradlees was demolished so that Stop & Shop could build a bigger and better store. The old Stop & Shop of course is now TJ Maxx and a vacant store.

i been to a stop and shop ther prices arnt the best

Groton CT used to have 2 Stop & Shop's, One in the Bradlees (Now Kohl's) Shopping Plaza, and one downtown, where Big Y and Job Lot are now.

They recently renovated the Stop & Shop in the Kohl's Shopping Plaza. The other Stop & Shop was knocked down, and Big Y took its place.

The Stop & Shop that had been knocked down, was closed in the early 90's, It was real Unsanitary like you wouldn't believe, It reminds me of a couple Old A&P's that are still open in Northern Ct, and also how Unsanitary Adams (In New London) was before it became C-Town.

Kinda wish I had photos to share for that Stop & Shop which had been knocked down.

On Long Island, I shop at Pathmark, Stop & Shop and Target. Those three are usually the cheapest around here.

Waldbaums is what A&P is called here, and their prices are bad. King Kullen's prices are even worse. Shoprite doesn't have many stores on the Island (and none near me), although their prices are in line with Stop & Shop and Pathmark. And most of the Wal-Marts around are disgusting and are not supercenters.

ive only seen one shoprite on long island im not that far from there im in westchester county and well a&p is pricey shop rites in the middle and stop and shop is just right we also do have pathmarks but there mainley in ghetto locations near me and we use to have alot of waldbaums but there all A&ps now

The Stop & Shop store in Hamden, CT (corner of Dixwell Avenue and Skiff Street) has begun the remodeling process.  So far some of the floor tiles and department signs have been removed.

Why can't Shaw's do this type of remodel. I haven't been back to my Shaw's in a few weeks, but their idea of a remodel pales in comparison to Stop and Shop (I won't start; I promise). No wonder they have so many stores and people like them. I'm always for the little guy, but I believe these other chains like Shaws and A&P would become more popular in CT if they refreshed their image every once in a while. I doubt if the Newington S&S will see yet another remodel. Their last one was in 2005. However it is not as fancy as the newly built Bristol or Berlin stores. Maybe Newington is remodeling too this year. I don't know because I never shop there. This S&S is a 1992/93 store. It has the same exterior design as the New Britain store.

One S&S that truly needs a remodel is the Wethersfield CT one on the Berlin Turnpike near the Hartford border. It still has the 2001/02 design and it looks more like a 1990s S&S stuck in a time warp. It has the general layout of the Big Y in Plainville with the bakery as the last department you see before the registers. This location must be old of course. I'm surprised it never got a remodel.

The Stop & Shop store in Hamden, CT (corner of Dixwell Avenue and Skiff Street) is halfway done with its remodel.  Often parts of aisles are blocked off as items are placed in other parts of the store.   Many aisles appear shorter, giving more space to the back and front of the store. All the freezers were changed, the produce section was redone, and the natural foods are now behind the produce, instead of in the alcove next to the prepared foods.
I wonder what will go in that alcove, I guess maybe more prepared foods and/or a food court/seating area.  Does anyone know (from having seen another store which either opened or was remodeled recently)?

Ahahaha, a food court. Yeah right. That's honestly one thing Stop & Shop needs to put in their stores. Edwards had cafes in some of their stores, and when Stop & Shop took them over, they took them out and replaced them with prepared foods.

As for the stores that opened recently, it's more of a cosmetic change than anything. They still have the same basic layout as the previous models (the stores built or remodeled between 2003-2008).

Years ago some Stop & Shops had a cafeteria/food court called Buffet Today.  I know the one in Milford, CT (near the mall) and one in Quincy,MA had it.  I didn't see it recently at the Milford location (it was replaced by natural foods).  This linked article about the new Stonington, CT store mentions that prepared foods could be taken home or eaten in the store.  Therefore I thought that the new store design would include a cafe/food court area.

They removed the cafe seating for an expanded natural foods department at my local S&S which is a former Bradlees. No sign of Dunkin' or Starbucks yet.

Actually this is a Giant in PA, which is basically the same as a Super Stop & Shop. Same company of course.

I would appreciate knowing  the town, even if it is a Giant store.

Broomall, PA. It was also a Two Guys, then Jefferson Ward. Next to a former A&P as well.

It's the same company but Giant Landover (the one in MD, DE, VA and DC) is in the same division as Stop & Shop and shares the same logo with Stop & Shop. Giant PA is run differently than S&S and Giant Landover.

I looked at the online circular of Giant PA.  It appears that it is a more upscale store than Stop & Shop.  Is it true?  (I mean by the way the products are presented, not the prices necessarily).

And it seems Giant PA/Martin's, Tops, and FINAST are the same division too.

Stop & Shop is opening its first store in the Hamptons on Friday. Eat it, King Kullen.

I found this photo (from www.27east.com) of the new Hampton Bays, NY store.
It has an interesting exterior design.  I think that the logo looks good on a white background.

That looks weird. I think it was a concession to the Town of Southampton to get it built.

It reminds me of Christmas Tree Shops

Here's the new logo on the Stop & Shop on Route 25 in Newtown. My friend who lives down there picked me up and we stopped at the store for pretzels and soda. Pic take 4/24/09. Weird. A Stop & Shop without a Dunkin Donuts. A sign on the building says they have a Starbucks. Don't know. Didn't look at the entire store.

CTAmeshopper

My Torrington Stop & Shop still has a Dunkin Donuts in it, should I be thinking it will be leaving pretty soon?

AmesNewington

Will every S&S get the new logo on the front of the building and will most S&S stores (especially well performing ones) get remodels?

I think all Stop & Shops will eventually get the new logo and a remodel, (that was what the company said when the new logo was presented).  However, I don't know whether every store will be remodeled in the same way.

The Hamden, CT (Dixwell & Skiff) store is almost through with the remodeling.  The former prepared food counter is now the cheese shop, and the former natural foods alcove is opened (no wall anymore between it and the florist) and filled with prepared foods.  The natural foods are now behind the produce (where the cheese was previously).

The store has most of the new department signs now and it has a more open look, reminiscent of Whole Foods.

The Hamden, CT (Dixwell & Skiff) Stop & Shop will begin its grand re-opening celebration tomorrow, as you can see from this photo of the front page of the circular from stopandshop.com

Here is a picture of the Stop&Shop on Valley Street at night. The location was built within the last 8 years. I'm not sure if and when they will replace store front logo to it's new innovative image.
There is a lot in store for you where clean, fresh and good make a GRAND UNION.

On the way back to Southington from Watebury yesterday instead of taking the Queen Street Exit (#32) my dad took Exit 28 (Route 322). We followed that up to Old Turnpike Road to Route 10. We drove past the Southington Stop & Shop and noticed that they had taken  the sign off the building and there was a huge label-scar in its place. A banner with the new logo and the words Stop & Shop was hanging above the label-scar.

Meanwhile I went to S&S on Pine Street in Forestville today and they still had the old sign up.

Update. I went to the Pine Street S&S today and they were taking the sign off the building. It was really neat how they had all the letters piled on the ground. The Stop & Shop banner was hanging above where the sign used to be. Apparently they also plan on remodeling this 15 year old store as there was a guy walking around with rolled out blue prints with the Stop & Shop logo on them. I don't know if they ever remodeled this store aside from adding the Dunkin Donuts about 8 or 9 years ago.

I was on Shunpike Road in Cromwell today and noticed that the Cromwell Super Stop and Shop now has the new sign on the building and on the pylon sign on the street.
