Trans World Entertainment to close 130 stores

ALBANY , N.Y. (Dec. 28) Trans World Entertainment is expected close about 130 stores over the next month, as indicated by reports this week.

According to reports, most of the anticipated closings will apply to underperforming stores whose leases are expiring.

So this basically means many excess or "duplicate" FYE stores are closing down.

Too late... an FYE down the street from me in a shopping plaza quietly liquidated in a former Strawberries.

I don't want to say getting what they deserved but everywhere you look and you see an FYE -- sometimes two stores per mall (or one across/down the street).
All submitted photos were taken by myself unless stated otherwise.

A little late to the party, but FYE's going out of business by attrition "plan" continues apace

The closures included the former Strawberries flagship location in Boston's Downtown Crossing

I think the only FYE around me is way out in North Olmsted, OH, in Great Northern Mall. I think they only have one now - they used to have two, but I think they consolidated down to one smaller store when the Disney Store closed and renovated to 1/2 the space that it used to occupy (it was a full-size location, with the Animation Gallery next door), moving into the space that it vacated. Midway Mall/Elyria, OH closed YEARS ago, as did Suncoast. Westlake, OH never had an FYE. Elyria used to have a Coconuts as well, but that's been gone for about a decade. It's unfortunate, too, because it had its own building in front of an adjoining plaza. I think Verizon owns the building now, since it used to be divided into 1/4 Verizon / 3/4 Mattress Matters. MM moved to a different location, so Verizon vacated its 1/4 and moved into the 3/4 space, and a Chipotle was ADDED ON as an entirely new construction. Your guess is as good as mine what will happen to the vacated 1/4.

I hope as a whole that FYE still stays open. I enjoy shopping there. The nearest one to me is about 40 miles away unfortunately, the one in my town closed about 4 years ago. They are the last store that has that Strawberries/Coconuts feel to it. I shopped there last the day before Xmas Eve and found a lot of cool things at good prices

I miss the one in Colonie Center that was like a warehouse for older stuff at deep discounts (I couldn't believe they had laser discs) before it relocated and turned into the suckiness of all the other stores then they stopped the free after rebate stuff. Now I see little to no reason for their continued existence other than being the last of its kind as a record store.

The fye near me is closing.
I remember when it was a Sam Goody, then a Coconuts.
Hell at one point in the 90s there was a sam goodys, the wall (both in roosevelt mall), and a coconuts (in cottman-bustleton center, it would move into sam goodys, the spot would become hollywood video now its divided between at&t and a dental place).

Heres some pics I took.

Heres a big pic of the mall, you can see it as coconuts
