What will happen, who will win, your thoughts, discuss!

I can't believe it has all started so early.  They way I see it, McCain is done.  Hillary is a shoe-in.  The republicans need to get their act together, and get away from the war in Iraq.  People are sick of the phrase "we're making progress," I mean, it's all we've been hearing since "Mission Accomplished" 2003.  It's also funny how every time any type of war bill comes around al these "positive reports" come out of Iraq.  People want to see a partisan bill passed to begin troop withdrawls.  For one thing I hope Romney doesn't make it through the primarys.  Not that he's that popular, but being from Massachusetts, I can tell you he didn't do a thing while he was governor.  From day one it was a pedestal for his presidential run.

If you can't already tell, I'm not a fan of the Bush-Cheney regime, especially since Cheney declared his office a sovereign nation not bound by the laws of the constitution.  The only bumper sticker I tote on my ride is "01.20.09 - Bush's Last Day."

To be honest, in 2004, I didn't vote for president.  I wasn't a fan of Bush or Kerry.  It seems politics are getting to the point where elections are like choosing the lesser of who's going to hurt the country more.

After all, 'politics' comes from "poly" (many) and "ticks" (blood-sucking vermins).;)

This is why i started this thread.  I keep hearing about the campagin on TV, it's quite early.  Anyway, i don't know much about american politics but i'm interested.  I remember watching the 2000 and 2004 elections until midnight...or even later.

I'm from Canada, up here, we went to the right with the Conservative Party.  I do not want to interfere into American politics, but I think that people are tired of Iraq, Bush and probably the republicans.  Will Dems be better, i don't know.

I'm kinda eager to see the official candidates, election and results.... President McCain?  President Guiliani? President Obama?  President Clinton? What about the first lady then?  Will Bill become the first Gentlemen... imagine ;)

I'm not sure what the term they'll use. First husband maybe? After Governor Rowland of Connecticut resigned in 2004 The Lieutenant Governor (sort of like the Vice President) became Governor. I forgot the term the used when they talked about her husband. And she got re-elected too, so he's still The First Husband or whatever they used for the term.

Barack is such a simple-minded person. And this whole color issue was on like 3 newspapers yesterday near me. Uhg.

I can't stand Obama. And it has nothing to do with the color of his skin. Something about him rubs me the wrong way and I think if he wins this country is in serious trouble. (And I don't discuss politics. I hate them).

Not for nothing but given the way our current President has conducted his administration, I wouldn't be surprised if the election doesn't go they way he wants it, he declares martial law, suspends all elections and remains president until whatever "threat" he feels is imminent passes. And no I have not been reading too many Tom Clancy novels. Just food for thought.

Sounds like Bush needs to stop hanging around with president Putin, he's getting way too many ideas ;)!

Hillary, let me tell you about her.  I got almost beaten up in religion class for expressing my opinions on Hillary Simpleton, and it is not a woman's job to run the country.  Oh well, I suppose it could've been worse.  Like Miley Cyrus running for president.

I'm not a political person and I don't have a party, but if I voted I'd pick Obama. He seems pretty cool.

What I hate is how people keep jumping to conclusions and say that McCain is automatically going to make the same mistakes Bush did, just because he shares some views

McCain is not Bush, even if he's called McBush sometimes.  It's a harder sell because his party was governing in the past 8 years and he has to say that his party is the best to change Washington and turn the country around.

McCain is a hero, but he's getting old and that's a factor.  Sarah Palin could quickly have to replace him.  Right now she gets so much attention, she has the buzz, almost overshadowing the guy at the top of the GOP ticket.

Finally, we're on the eve of the inauguration... discuss! :)

I'm tired of hearing about it! It's all over the news, standing out there for three days. It's nuts.

I have to say, I am really happy to see so many people excited about a presidential inauguration. Obviously not around these parts, but just in general... :P

I flew to and from Milwaukee via Detroit this weekend, so I spent a fair amount of time in airports, listening to and occasionally talking with a broad variety of people from drastically different demographics. The enthusiasm is pretty moving, at least to me. I am not a huge fan of discussing politics (I don't mind discussing my feelings on various matters in private, but I really despise the vitriol that almost always comes into play when politics come up), but I did want to weigh in on this as it is, at least to me, a pretty big deal. I've seen quite a few presidential elections come and go, and since coming of age have voted in three. None in that time have generated the excitement and passion around the country that this one has. And I don't care what side of the aisle you're on -- to me, to turn on the television, or be listening to people talk in the airport, or whatever, to see and hear so many of my fellow Americans take so much interest and pride in a presidential inauguration, that is a pretty awesome thing.

I'm sick of reality shows and things like that. But those are inane and trivial. This is a pretty big deal, and I would think that anyone who cares about this country, whether you think Obama's going to take steps to fix it, or flush it down the toilet...I think you'd want to pay attention to this. Not to mention that the inauguration in general is an important American historical event. But that is just my opinion on the matter, for whatever that's worth.

At any rate, I've got classes tomorrow off and on, so I'm not sure how much of the inauguration itself (the part I'm most interested in) I'll be able to catch. There's always DVR, I guess... :bouncing:
