Can anyone tell me about the Cromwell CT K-Mart. On our way to Old Saybrook, I always see K-Mart from the highway. Did they change any of it around since the re-design and merger of K-Mart and Sears.

here is a picture of the one in cromwell connecticut.

you can see the store in the reflection of the restuarant.

AmesNewington

This is the former Kmart in Bristol COnnecticut. IT was a CAldor and it opened in November 1999 and closed in June 2002. IT was 86,380 square feet and is now Price chopper

this was the Kmart in Plainville Connecitcut. IT was in the plainville commons and opened in late 1999, but closed in 2003. WHY DID IT CLOSE. I RESEARCHED THE AREA AND IT WAS THE ONLY STORE LIKE THAT IN PLAINVILLE. I hear it is now Dick's, petsmart and another store. the stoer was 96,842 square fet. The 2nd wave of closings of Kmart was just more of a bummer with closing nicer stores, and ones that just got renovated or opened.

d_fife

this was the original Kmart in Wallingford. IT was said to be 70000 square efet and it moved in early 1996 to a super kmart that closed in 2003. this Kmart will be a theater, I have heard this.

d_fife

this Kmart is in Milford COnnecticut. IT was built in 1980 and is 84,210 square feet. IT is one of the few Kmarts in Connecticut left.

Why did COnnecticut get hit so hard with closings???

d_fife

this Kmart is in Southbury Ct. IT will become  a SEars, and Sears bought it out last fall, one of the 50 stores. this store opened 1992 and is 120,897 squrae feet.

d_fife

this kmart is in WAterbury CT on Wilcott st, next to it is the older Toys r us. the kmart opened in 1973 and is 95,784 square feet. The one in SOuthington that closed in 2002 looked like this one (Waterbury) And when i saw southington in 1994 it had the Red K with the mart in it and I could tell that that Kmart got remodeled.

d_fife

this is the old Kmart in EAst HAven Ct. IT moved to FOxon road in NEw haven as Big Kmart. This Kmart (east haven) Was on frontage road (The same road where TOys r us clsoed and the toys r us was near a bradlees that closed in 1996),

This kmart was 70,130 square feet and it may have opened in 1977 or 78 or something like that.

d_fife

this is the Kmart in PResque isle maine. IT opened in the aroostook centre mall in november 1993 and is 86,479 square feet.

NOTE: The ones in Claremont NH and TEwksbury Mass look like the one Presque isle.

d_fife

this Kmart was in Swansea mass on GAR hwy (Rt. 6). the store was built in 1971, and closed like in 1983 and became Stuart's in 1984 and stuart's closed in 1992 and became Building 19.

d_fife

This Kmart was in Lincoln RI and opened in 1992. It was 108,553 square feet. IT replaced ames that closed in 1990, it was zayre before, before Zayre was another store. Kmart just tor down the building. The Kmart was in the Lincoln Mall and closed in 2003. IT is becoming a target that will open in OCtober. I went to that mall last week and saw that it was being redone. I will revisit the mall next year.

d_fife

THIS KMART WAS IN WARWICK RI. IT was 119,035 square feet and opened in 1993, by replacing a nearby Kmart location that was 84,180 square feet. IT was on Bald Hill ROad and the old location looked like it was built in 1972.

THE ONE IN PLYMOUTH MASS LOOKED JUST LIKE THIS ONE!!! This one looks like Keene.

d_fife

this Kmart was in Middletown RI. IT was 56,350 square feet. SEe how the stoer had no room to expand. THIS STORE was listed as Traditional Kmart for the Kmart locations, and They probably only changed it by repainting the insides in 1997 and just changing the logo to the red k with the mart in it. The stoer closed in 2000 with 71 others and is now Bed, bath beyond and MArshalls

d_fife

this is part of the Kmart in pittsfield that closed in 1997. it opened in summer 1971 and is now also petco, home goods and TJ Maxx. PRobably some of the space was not k-mart and a store next to k-mart.

d_fife

this kmart was in HAdley mass in the hampshire mall. it opened in 1978 and was expanded from 66,000 to 91,000 square feet in 1994.

the store was demolished and rebuilt into a 126,000 square foot Target that opened in October 2003.

d_fife

this Kmart/ or Builders squre was in DArtmouth Mass and it closed in 1993. the square footage is unknown. the plaza was demolished 5 years ago and rebuilt into one with Best buy and STop and shop.

d_fife

this Kmart was in North Adams mass. IT opened in 1981 as a 55,000 square foot store. IT was demolished in 1993-1994 and rebuilt into a modernized 95,000 square foot store.
IT closed in 2002. I heard the lease was overpriced. I saw this store vacant, and getting to the store was hard because downtown was like a maze and getting in and out of the store was like a maze and hard, so I can see why the store closed.

d_fife

this is the Kmart in South attleboro Mass. IT opened in 1992, after replacing the north attleboro one on Robert F blvd that is now Shaw's. the store is 114,000 square feet.

THIS IS WHAT THE ONES IN Londonderry NH and Braintree MASs look look. but the one in Braintree is grey and not brown.

This is a picture taken in 1980: from the saugus online page.

This is what the Kmart originally looked like!!!!

You can see they only renovated it, and on the next picture I will post a picture of the current look of the Kmart in Saugus. It was probably remodeled in in the 1990s during their store renovation program. The store is said to be 84,180 square feet and opened in 1976.

That 1976 K-Mart doesnt look much different. Id love to see what the inside looked like in 1976.

This is the oldest K-Mart in our area, Its on Walden Ave. and was built around 1975 or 76. You cant see it in the pic, but the labelscar of the 70's K-Mart logo is clearly visible behind the new one, which means this store wasnt renovated until recently. EVERY time we pass by the parking lot theres between 10-20 cars in the parking lot, some times less. I'm not exaggerating!! Look at the pic!! I was last in the store in July of 2003 and it was VERY small.

I have been in Kmarts that were built around that time. the one in MAnchester NH was built in 1975, and the inside was never remodeled until late 1997. I went inside the stoer before the inside was remodeled and the walls were orange, the lables of the isles were in white letters on the orange walls, some of the isles in the middle, had a black sign with white grey lettering hanging down from a chain saying the name of the isle, marble floors, wooden cashiers. I saw the ones in Portsmouth NH (built 78), Gilford NH (opened 76, but was WT grant built in 1967), and North conway (built late 1980) that way, and the ones in Portsmouth and MAncheter did not become big k until spring 2000 and gilford and conway never saw their chance of being big K.

The Kmart in Gilford was the only store left in that part of the plaza just before it closed. They could have torn down that part of the plaza and kmart and built a newly modernized store, but I guess Kmart did not care about that store and just let it go and probably set it up to close. IT closed becuae of the expiring \lease and poor sales. it closed august 2001, and a couple years before that hte family resturant closed and became a clearence isle section!

I went to the kmart in burlington vt 3 years ago and it hast he old school logo, it is shabby and run down looking! and the only store left in the plaza.  I hear a lowe's may be built near the plaza, and an 2001 dated article of burlington free press aid Kmart would add 16,000 square feet, but that never happened.

For the one in Saugus I went there a few weeks before they filed bankruptcy and it was obvious there were problems because there were bare shelves when I saw it, and that not so good manager covered up Kmarts losses. i did not know kmart was having problems until new year's eve 2001 (The day before 2002)

What do You think of my kmart comments and pictures, and why did rhode island and connecticut get hit hard with Kmart closings? I DO NOT HAVE A PICTURE OF THE ONE IN COVENTRY RI. I will go by it when I visit RI soon (I AM NOT GOING ALL THE WAY THERE JUST TO SEE THE VACANT KMART). The one in conventry closed in 1996, with skowhegan and 15 others, and was said to be 52,571 square feet and in the Coventry Plaza.  10 years ago, I heard, they planed to move it on Rt. 3. I DO NOT HAVE A PICTURE OF THE ONE IN JOHNSTON EITHER, But saw where it was BUT A DESCRIPTION OF IT IS ABOUt 5 posts down.

This picture is part of the old Kmart location in Putnam. It was in a n old downtown plaza. IT was probably WT grant I saw it last year and it looked kind of like the one in Gilford. when I saw the one in putnam, I saw the old Kmart lettering label scar. The store moved 10 years ago on rt. 44 near 395 in Putnam parkade and that store will become SEars. the old kmart in putnam will be torn down into price chopper.

10-20 cars of the Kmart in Walden ave, that is bad, I recently wenet in the ones in Salem and Hooksett nh and they wer enot every busy.

Here are the kmarts I know that were WT grant: Acton and Chelmsford mass, gilford nh
