I was at Fairfields repair center in Keene, NH yesterday when this amazing photo on the wall caught my eye. They took it out of the glass for me and let me snap some photos of it
This is somewhere between 1984-1988
The dealership is in the middle of the photo, it has since relocated and the area it once stood is now entirely different, an Applebees, and plaza of Autozone, Curves, FYE

I was amazed when I saw the photo. I've lived in Keene for 15 years and visited it for 5 more before that. Our town looks NOTHING like this anymore.
Almost nothing in this photo remains the same today.
Even the roadways have been entirely redone.
This was the small, quiet, Keene I moved to so many years ago
THIS is New England to me.
The way Keene is today, IS NOT.

The parking lot in front of the IGA/Bradlees (now Shaws/Walmart) was entirely redone. There are tons of buildings where there was once nothing. The marshland at the top of the photo is now a massive plaza containing Price Chopper, Borders, Home Depot, Target, Circuit City (now closed) Olive Garden, Bed Bath & Beyond, Michael's, and much more. Yes, it was once just a natural marshland, no pavement or anything.

In the top middle of the photo is an Edwards Supermarket. This has now been divided into Staples/TJMaxx/Rent-a-Center
Next to that is The Toy Works, which has since been divided into PetCo and K.B. Toys (Now closed)
Smack dab in the middle of the photo is a bank. It was Fleet Bank in the mid 90's. It since got remodeled into Brooks, then Rite Aid

Papa Ginos has been nearly a dozen things since this photo. It is currently Pizza Hut Italian Bistro. The Pizza Hut in this photo still stands, but is a Bentleys Roast Beef. Next to that is Kentucky Fried Chicken. It is now KFC/Taco Bell.

In the plaza next to Edwards is the Unemployment Office, which still stands unchanged. Next to that in the photo is an Indoor Mini Golf course. This is now Keene Cinemas.
The Keene Movie theater before Keene Cinemas is captured in this photo. It is in the Bradlees plaza at the end of the strip. That theater is now an Uno's restaurant. The trees inbetween the theater and the strip is now a Burger King/Nail Salon

Bradlees/IGA roadsign (the roadsign is now in an entirely different location)

Mister Donut (Now Dunkin Donuts)

Kentucky Fried Chicken & Pizza Hut
(Now KFC/Taco Bell - remodled building w/ drivethru)
(Pizza Hut now Bentley's Roast Beef)

Papa Ginos (now Pizza Hut Italian Bistro)
- between this and now this has been many things, Einstein Bagel, Boston Market, Bickfords...

This tiny Sunoco stood until 2005 when it was remodeled for a bigger nicer store

The KFC and Sunoco are amazing. Now that's old school. :)

The KFC really amazed me because I'd completely forgotten they knocked down the original building in that location for the one that is there today. The original building looks TINY! The building that is there today is too large for the parking lot it is in, and that always bothered me, so now it makes sense that the parking lot is the way it is, because the building was once entirely different

The former Bradlees in ROSLINDALE, MA. Taken today (Aug. 1, 2009).

It is finally being demolished along with the neighboring Stop & Shop for a completely rebuilt store. This plaza was very dilapidated!

The sign was covered in a "coming soon" tarp for Stop & Shop. Here's the neighboring Stop & Shop (a real oldie).

Bradlees was next to S&S and once joined at the interior. You can see the label scar on Bradlees.

Wow. What and old school S&S. Not even their old Traffic Light logo with that sign.

Now that's an exciting find!! Bradlees have all been replaced here in NH with something else now. Seeing the old sign brings back great memories of shopping with my Mom in Nashua on Main St and also the Nashua Mall. + They had a huge store in Manchester too.
There is a lot in store for you where clean, fresh and good make a GRAND UNION.

As you can tell, this plaza is a real dump!

No, these signs are not "stealable" (I probably would've tried).

Does anyone know what this Bradlees/jefferson Ward was before Jefferson Ward?

I think it was a Two Guys.

TRJ22487

Wow thank you for those awesome pics from New Jersey
Cant believe nearly a decade later they stand untouched, road sign and all...

In Turnersville, NJ, there's a furniture store called ''The Dump'' in a former Jefferson Ward and Bradlees, and it still has an entrance sign left over from Jefferson Ward!

catsnap1972

Found out that this Kmart in Delaware was a former Bradlees store.

http://www.bing.com/maps/default.aspx?v=2&FORM=LMLTCC&cp=qmpt098ps3jt&style=b&lvl=1&tilt=-90&dir=0&alt=-1000&phx=0&phy=0&phscl=1&scene=17956768&encType=1

Was down that way on a rainy day and spotted the labelscar on the side of the building.  Figured for sure it was something before Kmart but wasn't sure what.  I think it may have been a Woolco in a past life but can't confirm.
