Just to add one more thing: 2005, K Mart merges with Sears.

they were all related. kresge 5 and dime grew to kresge mart(aka Kmart)had a kresge in town i grew up in dundalk md. was still there until mcorys bought them i think in 87? just as ames bought my store in 8586. mcorys bought gcmurphys in 89 90 dont know what they r now now but when i visited in 2001 mcoorys sign out front but old kresge side entrance sign still up (though entrance long gone)

Actually, G.C. Murphy was a cousin of the head of McCrory's and once worked for him. the G.C. Murphy company was bought by Ames in 1985. The Murphy's Mart near my home town in Painted Post, NY was converted to an Ames shortly thereafter

This is a photo of the former Hudson Jupiter (corner of 6th and Warren St.).

It is a very small store, as you can see through to the side windows - when open it was set up similar to a Kmart, just much more limited.

It closed quite a few years ago, and for a while was a clothing outlet (Outlet Barn - they had stores in Valatie, Troy (old Stanley's Building), Mechanicville and a few others I don't remember - it has since become an antique shop (as have so many stores in Hudson).  The Hudson Newberry's is actually just to the left of this store - all of the building you see is part of the Jupiter - the door marked 603 leads to the upper floors, the window to the left is actually part of the Jupiter store.
