Miscellaneous Retail Stuff / Dollar Tree considers selling ...
Last post by TheFugitive - June 06, 2024, 10:56:53 AM
A marriage made in heaven, not so much.  What was once seen as a saving growth opportunity for both chains has flatlined, and now Dollar Tree is reportedly considering selling off or separating it's Family Dollar stores to go back to concentrating on their core business.

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/dollar-tree-family-dollar-stores-sale/

This seems not unlike the Sears-Kmart merger that was supposed to save both but saved neither.  In my own experience living through the Ames-Zayre merger we were taking on a lot of headaches which, if they ever were going to produce increased profits those were years out in the future.  What really happened was that we got our elbows into the Zayre stores and realized their situation was WAY worse than we had been told.

This does signal potential closures or remodels for the hybrid Family Dollar/Dollar Tree locations.

Department Stores / Re: Walmart

Here's an article from Bloomberg claiming that Walmart actually pays some of their store managers half-a-million dollars per year.

Krikey, maybe I bailed on retail management a bit too soon.  Although based on conversations with people I know who worked in management there the odds are high that you could die from stress long before achieving that number.

Wonder if they just moved them when the Albany store was closed down?

Seems logical that Schenectady is one of the closest to where the Albany store was (the other would be Troy by HVCC, but they have blue carts that seem to be all similar).

Could be, and more.

As far as Troy's carts, I'm sure they still have the Toys R Us carts. The other (slightly smaller) blue ones I believe were former Christmas Tree Shops units.

Even as it's being torn down trespassers STILL continue to break into Century III to shoot video.

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/crime/five-people-arrested-accused-of-trespassing-at-century-iii-mall/ar-BB1njG5y?ocid=BingNewsSerp

This time the "shooting" could have been literal.  Four adults and a juvenile broke in at 2AM on Wednesday to shoot video for a Facebook livestream.

Since the mall has no power they brought their own light, in the form of a flashlight that was mounted to a loaded hand gun!

Having seen the gun in the video the police opted to wait until these people left the mall and got back in their car before making an arrest.

The driving force behind every break-in at the mall has been somebody's desire to become an internet video star.

Maybe if you are going to do illegal things it's best not to livestream them on Facebook.
