Shopping Cart Sightings / Delmar Marketplace

This is another older store that has older carts. Interestingly they have two sets of carts, a set of Unarcos with sea green trim from 1996, and an even older set of United Steel & Wire carts (c. 1984) that have blank yellow handles, which lack child seating.

Ames / Anniversary Day
Last post by TheFugitive - June 20, 2024, 10:56:05 AM
Today is the 36th. anniversary of my first day on the job at Ames.

The day prior I had loaded my Olds Cutlass and driven out from Pittsburgh to my training store in Wauseon, Ohio.  It was beastly hot (that was one of the hottest Summers on record with a major drought and a number of 100-degree days). I was not able to find a hotel room in Wauseon due to something called the National Threshers Convention that was taking place there (some type of an old-school farm equipment show) so I had to stay at a Holiday Inn eleven miles south in Napoleon.  It was there that I found a studio apartment for the very affordable price of $250/month.  The commute to Wauseon on lightly used Ohio Route 108 wasn't bad.  Though I once did end up getting a speeding ticket for doing 42 in a 35 cornfield.

I did my training in this store and was there until getting promoted to Hillsdale, Michigan in October.  A lot of interesting things in my life would start happening once I got to Michigan.

Fifteen Pizza Hut locations in Indiana abruptly shut their doors in the midst of a legal dispute between the franchisee and Pizza Hut corporate.

Up to 142 other Pizza Hut locations operated by this franchisee in various states may close if things between the two do not go well.

The huge Lakeside Mall in Sterling Heights, Michigan will close on July 1 and will be demolished soon afterwards.

https://www.macombdaily.com/2024/05/01/closing-time-lakeside-mall-to-permanently-shut-down-in-60-days/

Apparently local officials have been paying attention to the ongoing saga at Century III and do not want a repeat of this in their community.  Mall tenants have been given a notice to vacate.  The mall will then be demolished and quickly replaced with a mixed-use development.  This should let them avoid all of the problems Century III has experienced with vandalism, vagrants, trespassers, etc.

This mall was Mrs. Fugitive's favorite teen hangout in the 80's.

The contributor that I have email correspondence with has brought a bunch of ShopRite carts to the Colonie Salvation Army. Also included are some random older carts, including this gem. '96 model and still has the Wal-Mart Discount City branding.

I actually got around to covering the two Central Ave stores within one hour. Quite serene without a media presence and a fairly low number of shoppers at 8 am.

Unless they do some kind of "franchise" for those, much like there are still Taco Bell/Long John Silver's combination restaurants even though the company sold off LJS many years ago now.

Paperwork on it's bankruptcy filing reveals that Red Lobster could be forced to close up to 135 additional restaurants if they are unable to renegotiate their rent down to a level where those locations become profitable.
