Department Stores / Re: Big Lots
Last post by Retail Regents - August 07, 2024, 07:33:46 PM
Here in Upstate NY, we are set to lose two stores in Buffalo, and individual stores in Canandaigua, Ithaca, New Hartford, Plattsburgh, and Poughkeepsie. Canandaigua and Plattsburgh are just two out of four stores in NY to still have a pre-exclamation point logo.

In an SEC filing update Big Lots is now saying that they plan to close up to 315 stores.

The company cites a pullback in consumer spending on big-ticket items as a driving force.

The article contains a list of stores that are closing.  Coraopolis, PA is the only one in my area that's on the list.

Yes.  It looks like they are no longer anywhere along the East Coast save for Florida.

Current Restaurants / Buca di Beppo files for bankru...

Buca di Beppo, a chain of Italian restaurants serving family style meals, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

The chain has been in a slow state of decline since the COVID pandemic.  They recently closed their 2 locations closest to me at Station Square and in Robinson Towne Center, and according to their website appear to have exited Pennsylvania entirely.

Department Stores / Iowa based Von Mauer to open f...
Last post by TheFugitive - July 30, 2024, 01:38:01 PM
Von Mauer, a 150-year old Iowa based department store chain that currently has 36 locations, will be opening their newest one at South Hills Village south of Pittsburgh on November 9.

https://patch.com/pennsylvania/upperstclair/von-maur-sets-opening-date-first-pa-department-store

The store has been under construction for the better part of two years as they basically tore down the old Sears wing of SHV and built a new store in its place from the ground-up.

This chain is apparently known for entertaining customers with live music played on a grand piano on the sales floor.  I'm guessing I won't be getting the Marshalls price on anything here.

Back in the day / Re: Inventory: RGIS or WIS?
Last post by TheFugitive - July 29, 2024, 11:32:26 AM
I wasn't sure that these guys were even still around, but while visiting some family in Missouri I walked into a Dollar General store where their inventory was being taken by Washington Inventory Service.

The company has actually rebranded itself as WIS International.  At the time they did my Ames inventories they were a division of the Huffy Bicycle Company, but Huffy encountered some catastrophic problems in the 90's with competition from Chinese manufacturers, an accounting scandal and a bankruptcy filing.  WIS was sold to a venture capital firm in 2007.

Current Shopping Malls and Shopping Centers / Re: Neshaminy Mall
Last post by EddieJ1984 - July 26, 2024, 09:33:22 PM
Well sadly since Macy's closed in 2017, Neshaminy Mall was never quite the same, then 2018 Sears closing, Modell's going out of business shortly before 2020 then that putting a dent into Round 1's plans of going in the former Sears space and the medical offices never happening.
Brookfield sold the mall to Paramount Realty &  Edgewood Properties.

The enter mall portion seems will be demolished, keeping the AMC Theatres, Boscov's & Barnes & Noble, along with the former Macy*s which is slated to become a Fusions Gym and the Uno & On The Border in the parking lot.
