An article delving into the thinking behind Giant Eagle's decision to divest itself of GetGo.

https://triblive.com/local/regional/giant-eagles-sale-of-getgo-refocuses-company-amid-growing-grocer-competition-experts-say/

This is a sharp turn because just a couple of years ago they were all-in on GetGo.

Gas Stations / Giant Eagle selling Get-Go con...

Well I didn't see THIS one coming.

Giant Eagle has agreed to sell their Get-Go chain of convenience stores and gas stations to Canadian convenience store operator Couche Tard.

https://www.wtae.com/article/giant-eagle-sell-getgo/61913447#

The press release says the sale will allow Giant Eagle to focus on their core supermarket business.

This is kind of a stunner as Giant Eagle has aggressively built Get-Go in this area to compete with Sheetz.  The move seems to indicate that all is not going well for their core grocery business.

Couche Tard is French for "Late to Bed".

After filing bankruptcy in May, and apparently being acquired by somewhat murky new owners, Rue21 is reopening a limited number of stores, including one at Monroeville Mall here in the Pittsburgh area.

Radio / WCBS New York ditching histori...
Last post by TheFugitive - August 13, 2024, 09:31:10 AM
WCBS-AM 880, an historic powerhouse 50,000 watt station in New York, will dump it's all-news format later this month, two days short of the format's 57th. anniversary.

https://nypost.com/2024/08/12/sports/espn-ny-taking-over-wcbs-880-am-signal-in-radio-stunner/

ESPN sports programming, currently heard in New York on 1050AM/98.7FM, will move over to 880 and the station's call letters will change to WHSQ.

WCBS has been the flagship station of the CBS Network since the 1920's.  It adopted the WCBS call sign in 1946.  Station owners cited the extremely high cost of running an all-news format along with declining ad revenues as reasons for the change.

This is not unlike when historic 50,000 watt WNBC adopted an all-sports format and changed it's call sign to WFAN in 1988.  That station had likewise been the longtime flagship for the NBC Network.

1010 WINS, which pretty much invented the all-news format, will continue with it for the time being.

Von Mauer has opened an Employment Center inside the mall offering walk-in interviews.

I wonder how many piano players this place will need to hire?

It appears that Kennywood, as well as it's local sister parks Sandcastle, Idlewild and Soak Zone, could be up for sale soon as their Spanish corporate parent company looks to divest their U.S. based assets.
