Other Current Retail / Re: Family Dollar
Last post by TheFugitive - April 09, 2026, 11:27:42 AM
I was visiting family in Missouri over the holiday weekend and I was in a former Family Dollar/Dollar Tree hybrid store that was undergoing a remodel after the two chains split.  This one is going to become a full Family Dollar store, and they had the remaining Dollar Tree merchandise marked down to twenty-five cents.

Radio / Re: Pittsburgh, PA Radio News
Last post by TheFugitive - April 01, 2026, 10:43:24 AM
Since leaving retail management in the late 1990's due to failing knees and being assigned to a store in a part of town where my physical safety was in jeopardy, I made a career change and have spent the past quarter-century working in IT services.

My employer is affiliated with the Pittsburgh Technology Council, a chamber of commerce type organization that seeks to promote tech industry growth and employment in the Pittsburgh area.

They produce a weekly show to update the public on local happenings with tech.  The show is called Tech Vibe Radio.

It airs on KDKA Radio, AM 1020, on Sundays at 6AM.

Interesting that the organization charged with promoting the growth of high tech chooses to do so on an AM radio station.  ;)

Some replacements have moved in at this point.

- Boot Barn has moved into the former Party City location.
- The Shoe Dept. has moved into a former Tuesday Morning location which had been vacant for several years.
- O'Reilly's Auto Parts is moving into the former Sears Outlet space.
- Bob Evans is in the process of being renovated into a pet urgent care center.
- TJ Maxx has finally made the move down into the former OfficeMax space, while the former TJ Maxx/Homegoods location continues to undergo renovation into a standalone Homegoods store.

Miscellaneous Retail Stuff / Cumberland Farms expands into ...
Last post by TheFugitive - March 17, 2026, 08:47:00 AM
Massachusetts-based Cumberland Farms has acquired the 54-unit Coen Markets chain of convenience stores in the Pittsburgh region.  They will be rebranded and folded into Cumberland giving them over 600 locations.

https://patch.com/pennsylvania/pittsburgh/say-goodbye-coen-markets-convenience-store-name

Coen, an oil products distributor in Washington, PA acquired the former CoGo's chain several years ago.  CoGo's had long been known as Stop N' Go Convenience Stores until a rebranding in the early 1980's.

Shopping Cart Sightings / Trader Joe's cart at Boscov's
Last post by Retail Regents - March 17, 2026, 02:23:18 AM
This one had to have traveled a long way, as this one was found in the Boscov's in Colonie Center, and is a large model that the Wolf Rd TJ's does not use.

Quote from: Retail Regents on November 18, 2024, 10:42:08 PMAnother Schenectady cart, a Rehrig Vista that is most certainly ex-Christmas Tree shops, lot no. 101204. The white stickers underneath the Job Lot ones have the Ann & Hope wordmark, meaning these are former Outlet fare.

You cannot view this attachment.

Seems this one has been having a very long trip, touring the outlets of past and present :)

Miscellaneous Retail Stuff / Re: QuickChek looks to expand ...
Last post by BillyGr - March 16, 2026, 10:28:02 AM
That other one doesn't make much sense - why not the opposite corner with the no longer a Rite Aid (unless Walgreens is moving over there?).

I quess this one will have to be nicknamed the QuickShopRiteChek, given that was the original tenant, long before BB&B went to the beyond ;)

Along with this article, there has been mention of one in Schodack (just off I-90 Exit 11 heading towards Nassau, by Route 150 before 9 & 20 split) and one down in Greenport (Hudson addresses), in front of the plaza where Walmart is there.

Just took them a while, since they've had their stores in Saugerties and Kingston for at least a decade now.

Rehrig Mini, with full Marshalls logos peeking through the worn OSJL stickers.
