Southside Mall in Oneonta would definately fit into this category. It has a JCPenney, vacant Kmart, Office Max, a cinema, an Applebees, and about 15 to 20 stores.

The Turnpike Mall in Augusta is one small mall.  It's more like a shopping plaza with a wall added to create an indoor walkway.  Excluding Ames, It only had one or two other vacancies but recently Payless Shoes moved and Sam Goody will close soon...

The Airport Mall in Bangor.  The first enclosed mall in Maine.  Used to be anchored by Woolco, then Rich's, then Ames, then Marshalls/Dollar Tree/Vacant.  Almost every large store does not have access to the indoor mall.

The small mall looks old inside and has many vacancies and local stores.  It's truly one of the smaller enclosed malls..

the nashua and bedford malls almost count. but the nashua mall belongs in the dead malls category. the bedford mall is small and old and had montgomery ward.

Yeah, I knew it had been quite a while. I was reading an article earlier today, and they still feel confident about finding a tenant to move in there. They are looking for someone who is longterm, rather than partitioning the space off, and having a few smaller tenants or short-lived ones.

I think I had heard at one point that Target was being mentioned about going into that slot. Nothing turned up of that. Target has no presence in Oneonta.

I remember the Great American and the Ben Franklin.

Hey amesman, do you remember the Pyramid Mall over on the East End of Oneonta?? That was smaller than Southside. Their Anchor was Nichols, and I know they had a Carl's Drugs (changed over to Fays Drugs),  a Bank, which might still be there, and a few other stores. I went there only once, and once Nichols GOB'ed, it destroyed the rest of the mall. Not to mention that Southside hurt it too.

I don't really know much about that plaza. Was it by where the old Jamesway was? I do know there was a plaza nearby with a Grants in it..

Nope, nope. Oh was it by...yeah, it wasn't too far away from there. Jamesway Plaza had a Jamesway (obviously) and a Price Chopper. Price Chopper built their new store, and left the old store vacant. Don't think the slot ever got refilled. The last time I went by there, I believe that they turned it into a school of some sort.

Pyramid Mall was going more towards the City of Oneonta. Same side of the road as Jamesway, but just over on the side of the Pizza Hut. It sat down an embankment. Kind of reminded me of the Mall in the Back to the Future Movie. I want to say that Pyramid Mall was built in '73, or around there. Back then East End Oneonta was the place to be to do shopping. Southside Oneonta was practically nonexistent at that point (No I-88, Southside Mall, BJ's, Wal Mart, Hannaford). Like I said, when Southside Mall was built, and with Nichols going out. that Mall never stood a chance. I believe that the Mall is now something like an outpatient Hospital for Fox (Bassett) Hospital. It has been fully renovated. Interesting to see if they had kept anything from the original Mall.

Not sure where Grants were. That was before my time.

Here is a scan of a Jimapco map, dated 1992.

It shows that, coming from the North on Route 7, you'd pass:
- Jamesway Plaza
- Oneonta Plaza
- Pyramid Mall
one after the other, all on your left.

I do remember going through there a while back, and the above observations of a school and a medical facility are correct.  The Price Chopper still remains (with a drug store and a few small stores) in the 3rd plaza.

If you look to the bottom of the map, you can also see the Southside Mall (most of the other shopping areas probably hadn't been built yet).

It was in fact an enclosed Mall, which in a sense makes it more appropriate for this topic than Southside does, but still Southside is one of the Smaller Malls I have seen. hearsa mall that was in my town thatw as pritty small it was torn down in 2003 to make way for a target this mall was bacley dead long before it clsoed ancords were a Silo and Waldbaums

It could have been. That was my thoughts too. I did end up checking out the Newspaper for any additional information on Pyramid Mall. The archives only went back to 1998, and no photos were found. Anyways, the Mall opened in 1972, not '73 (I was pretty close) with an anchor of Whites Department store?? Never heard of it. It didn't seem like Nichols was originally there. Fox Hospital had most of the space renovated in '98, and was working on converting the rest of it over at that point.

Smaller malls are a dime a dozen in Michigan. Here's my local (an hour away) mall, Alpena Mall. The Gordon Foods/Glik's area used to be Kmart before they moved; they were the first tenant in the mall. (The mall was added onto the Kmart store.)

The Bedford Mall in Bedford, NH. This mall originally had a mall entrance at each of the mall. The center court west entrance and the new north and south entrances were added in the late 80's.
The picture of the south entrance show's the archway with a Marshall's sign on it, this entrance was taken over when store moved into the mall from the former Caldor plaza. The new south entrance is tucked in the corner of the picture.

There have been recent articles that the Bedford Mall will soon be converted into a shopping plaza. Current tennants like staples and marshalls will occupy new spaces in the plaza design.

Former MVP Sports store in location 2 on the northside of the mall. A portion if not all of location 1 and 2 were at one time Alexander's Supermarket, later to become shop 'n save down the street and now home of the newly renovated Hannaford's.
A peak in the showcase window of location 3 is a store that I remember from when I was just a little kid in the 70's. This location was original a ladies apparel store.
Location 4 is the former CVS store that now has a new freestanding location across the street from the mall.

The former linens and things in location 15 also had a clearance store in location 14.

The Bedford Mall is being torn down as we speak, this portion of the mall pictured is already gone. There was an article last year in the Union Leader or Hippo talking about the mall conversion into a shopping plaza similar to the Nashua Mall and Royal Ridge Mall conversions years back.
