The university mall opened in late 1979 as a 200,000 sf shopping center. the 82,000 sf Zayre opened in 1970. the plaza got redone to a 600,000 sf enclosed mall in 1992 with a 60,000-90,000 sf Jc penny, a 60,000 sf Steinbach. and the mall has about 70 stores. Kb toys and vermont toy and hobby are here. applebee's opened here. papa gino's closed 10 yeras ago. a 110,000 sf sears was constructed in 1998 with a parking garage. stienbach closed in spring 1999 and become bon-ton. Zayre became Ames in 1989 and that closed in 2002 and became a remodeled Kohl's in april 2004. the mall got remdoeled in 2005.
