the pheasant lane mall is in nashua new hampshire on the border of massachusetts (part of the parking lot is in massachusetts). it is on the major retail shopping strip on daniel webster highway. the mall opened july 1986. it is a 2 level 135-store mall. and started with these anchors: a 122,000 square foot lechmere, a SEars, a jc penny, a 128,000 square foot Jordan marsh, and a Filene's. the mall is 980,000 square feet. the mall had a seaseme street store that closed 10 yeras ago. KB toys relocated across the hall in 1999. Disney store there was one of the first. They have a food court that got remodeled 10 yeras ago. the mall gets lots of shoppers from mass due to nh having no sales tax. the mall has charlie's saloon. Lechmere closed in late 1997 and was torn down in early 1999 and rebuilt into a 2-level 138,000 square foot TARGET that opened October 1999. The Jordan marsh became Macy's in spring 1996. The Macy's will close early-mid 2006 and relocate in the existing filene's.

This mall was my ultimate hangout in the mid 2000's. Met one of my first serious girlfriends there. At one point I was coming here a couple of times a week. We dated on and off for about 4 years. Our relationship ended in 2007 and I don't make it to this town or mall much anymore, but did some Christmas shopping here last winter and didn't even notice that the mall looked any different! Maybe I just wasn't looking at the right stuff, but it sure looked the same to me. I know you can text message at the food court to select music videos on the monitor, but you've been able to do that for a few years now. I'd like to go back now that Newbury Comics is in, I have a hard time believing FYE is too thrilled about that....also I know Dick's is now in this mall as of 2009 or 2010, but I thought they overtook the former Filene's?? Or was that the original spot of Jordan Marsh/Macy's? Bit confused by that. Also I know JCPenney had to slightly restructure because part of the store was over the Massachusetts border....though it took over two decades for them to realize it? Anyway, whenever I go back to this mall, I almost can't help but think back to the days of teenage romance, as much as I love my current girlfriend....there is always a magic in those past moments. And I knew a lot of friends with jobs all over the mall, but they've all moved on since. I knew a very beautiful girl that worked at the Chick-Fil-A that would always get us free food....it was fun to be that young, getting your first car and being able to go to new cities, meet new people. It all used to feel so new and fresh to me. Now when I go back to Nashua it just feels like....some place I used to know, that no longer knows me back, in just a short 7-8 years......I guess everything changes but it is a bit sad that it has to....

FYE is on life support. If founder Bob Higgins didn't own so much of the company's stock it would have liquidated years ago. Anyway, Newbury is selling less music and more bling these days (CDs account for an ever-shrinking percentage of sales.) If anyone should worry about Newbury's move to malls, it's the youth-oriented clothing stores and Spencer Gifts.

Ah, true enough. I mostly go there to buy Vinyl Records, barely notice the CD's still exist.
