Arcades @ malls are d dissapppppearing too.....

I noticed. Dream machine went out yeras ago and I have not seen many arcades in these malls. Aladdin's castle in the steeplegate mall closed years ago. Why, cause the internet? well the mall is a different place. Arcades are still needed.

yea i knwo alot of acards in malls have been going down hill ever since the 90's ended ive also seena declineg in candy stores in malls too

I noticed the candy store thing too, like I went to the maine mall last month and sweets etc was closing. sad for those malls. Arcades are a good thing to have as you win prices and such.

I too noticed the thing as far as declining amounts of arcades. In the instance of Sangertown Square in New Hartford, NY, I would give the closure of the Cinemas in the mall as the number 1 reason for the Arcade going out. With the arcade right next to the Cinemas, the two benefited from each other. With the two of them closed, the teen crowd has drastically declined, and combined with Sangertown's stronger stance on not allowing teenagers there alone without an adult has resulted in even less.

The other problem I see is that Arcade's are having problems keeping up with the technology. The games are getting more and more complex, and the prices for the games new is phenomenal. Figure 2 years down the road, and that same arcade game has lost most of it's original value. Plus the increase in costs as far as parts, and Mall Rent, the diminishing Arcades is only gonna get worse.

there is a huge FYE store with an arcade in the liberty tree mall.

youre right........tuh...the rent is going up and up and parts arent made anymore. being a teen years ago was awesome too. i still live young BUT HAVE NOTICED all these crap rules around now. they MIGHT ban SKATEBOARDING for younger kids in my town.......isnt that lame. [ yet, younger peeps shouldnt have screwed things up anyhow]

The Jefferson Vally mall in NY ha d2 candy stores in it one use to be  near the rest room and this candy store was sooooooooo 80's/early90's loooking with alot of bright flashy neon lights and such they clsloed that and turned it into a deli and there was anouther one tha tghye just clsoed resctley there too

Yeah, I know Dream Machine closed a number of stores in the late 90s and early 00s. Auburn, ME and Porthmouth, NH come to mind right away. Quite a few arcades were fairly stagnant, not making money but not actully loosing money.

I had a chance to work with the old manager of the Auburn store this past summer when he was acting as seasonal management at the Maine Mall store. Very nice guy, and it sounds like there'd still be a market there if the Auburn Mall wasn't on the verge of disppering.

there was even dream machine in smaller malls like the lilac mall in rochester nh and mt. valley mall in conway. I saw one in the maine mall.

Yeah, for a while DM was everywhere. The failed venture with FYE/Reccord Town didn't do much for the company, and the arcade business as a whole isnt' doing terribly well. At this point, there's something like five stores in Mass (Hull, Walpole, Watertown, North Dartmouth, and Springfield) and one in Maine (South Portland, where I work). The one in Old Orchard Beach near the pier may return at some point as well, that remains to be seen.
