the warwick mall was built in 1970 or 1971. It is on rt. 2 in warwick rhode island near the junction of Rt. 5 and 1/4 mile north of the rhode island mall. The warwick mall had a 309,000 square foot Jordan marsh, a 90,000 square foot Caldor (THAT OPENED 1984), a JCPEnny and a 165,000 square foot Filene's. The mall is an older one and has 80 stores and is between 800,000 to 1 million square feet. still the small store space is not big. Jordan marsh became MAcy's in 1996. The filene's in 1997, just after closing its RI mall store taht was a G. FOX, got expanded from 165,000 square feet to 240,000 square feet. Caldor closed in march 1999 and a couple years later became old navy, the largest old navy in the country! The mall got modernized!!! there is a decent food court. KB toys closed in early 2005 and when I saw it in july 2005. it was still vacant. MAcy's will vacate its current space and relocate to the Filene's building. I wonder what they will do to the old macy's, it is a large store. Teh store looks like the ones in the maine mall in south portland and bedford. the mall's modernization, combined with the new providence place mall, seemed to bring the downfall of the rhode island mall. the longhorn steakhouse and macroni grill is on the mall's premisis and Ground round closed 2 years ago. WArwick mall cinema closed and a huge showcase cinema is in the parking lot. there is a disney store in the mall.

How come Macy's is taking over the old Filene's store when the Macy's store is 3 floors and much bigger than Filene's? Is Old Navy 90,000 square feet like Caldor or did they not take over the whole store? I believe when Caldor was there their mall entrance was flush with the main corridor with the small shops but Old Navy is 3 stores in from the four-way intersection.

maybe the filene's building condition is better or has better building utilities or maybe the filene's has more sales than the macy's. They did take over the whole caldor. FYe is near the food court in this mall. the mall is also off 295, the first exit off 295.

what was this mall like before it was modernized?! The thread for the rhode island mall said the warwick mall was a dead one. was there a time when this mall was dying. GEesh, they may have every store imaginable on Rt. 2 in warwick, but the malls are not any good and are older? probably because of providence place.

I heard Warwick Mall wasnt doing well before Filene's moved in. Some of the stores did close up after Caldor closed but after Old Navy moved in it seemed to result in there being almost no empty stores.

But i thought filene's had already been at the warwick mall since it opened and just expanded and renovated its store in 1997.

I remember Filene's always being in here. If I recall correctly, Jordan Marsh (now Macy's) had a restaurant on the top floor. There was also a Woolworth's. In the corridor leading to J C Penney there was an arcade called "Aladdin's Castle" which had all the latest Bally/Midway games. The Ground Round has been replaced with a Chelo's (great burgers). Every year this mall hosts the Jerry Lewis Telethon. I miss the Fanny Farmer chocolatier that was here. Caldor's was so immense it actually had an escaltor. Old Navy remodeled the building and removed it. I don't particularly care for this mall. Not much interests me, besides, Swansea Mall and Emerald Square are only 10 and 15 minutes away respectfully and this place is a half hour with the same stores.

Warwick Mall has re-opened.. many stores didn't return, Gap, Gap Kids, Disney Store Chelo's. Macys won't open till next year. it looks like a lot of stores didn't return, they must have had a flood clause in their lease.
