Now Lechmere was a wonderful little electronics store. Their CDs and video tapes were less than any other place. We bought a stove there. Place seemed to be thriving then all of a sudden they were shuttered and gone. Best Buy and Circuit City pretty much took its place. There were several other electronic type stores I recall, Tweeter is still in business but seems more inclined to big ticket items. There was a place called Leiser's that came and went. I do remember commercials for Nobody Beats the Wiz but never actually went into one.

Lechmere stores I knew of

Seekonk Mass---demolished, replaced with a Target

Warwick RI--same as Seekonk

North Attleboro Mass--replaced with a Lord & Taylor which closed. Filene's now has their men's & bed and bath departments in the space

Taunton Mass---still vacant as far as I know

this was the first lechmere ever. it is called their flagship store too. it is now best buy and borders.

lechmere stores went all the way to buffalo new york and as north as portland maine (that one opened in 1994)

As of little more than three months before going into bankruptcy, they were one of the hottest chains for developers to get their hands on. Boy how quickly that changed. Locations that I know of were:

Albany - Northway Mall - Still vacant

Poughkeepsie - Poughkeepsie Galleria - Now a Best Buy, and mall expansion.

there may have been one around Rochester, but I do not know. I know that the one in Albany is still vacant and the lettering was gone when I saw it in August. There was grass in the parkinglot.
