Schwebel's (pronounced schway bulls), a 120-year old commercial bakery based in Youngstown, Ohio whose products have been a fixture on Pittsburgh grocery shelves for over a century, has announced that it is going out-of-business.

Apparently attempts to sell the company were unsuccessful so they have chosen to liquidate.  I will always remember them for having one of the most annoying commercials in radio history.

We want Schwebel's
We want Schwebel's
No other labels will do....

That was sung by a group of shrill voiced children and sung over and over and over again.  It certainly stuck in your head.

Apparently a last-minute reprieve for Schwebels may be in the offing.

Last month the company announced that it would be liquidating after failing to find a buyer.  The Teamsters Union, which represents their employees, filed suit claiming that the announcement was a violation of their collective bargaining agreement.

Court documents related to this case reveal that a potential buyer for Schwebels has appeared on the horizon.
