Pittsburgh Pirates set strange new MLB record

Last week the Pittsburgh Pirates hosted the St. Louis Cardinals in a three game series.  The Pirates swept the series, during which the Cardinals did not score a run in any of the three games.

The Pirates then flew to Seattle for a three game series over the July 4th. weekend.  They dropped all three contests, and did not score a run in any of them.

The Pittsburgh Pirates are thus the first team in the 120+ year history of Major League Baseball to sweep a 3 game series while holding the other team scoreless, and then immediately get swept in their next series while being themselves held scoreless.
