Kohl's is reportedly considering ending it's relationship with Amazon where Amazon customers can return Amazon purchases to a Kohl's store.

The article says that they have turned this off in selected stores in three states to gauge customer reaction.

I live near a Kohl's and have found this service to be very handy.  However, I can see several reasons why they might be thinking about ending it.

- I've been in Kohl's multiple times where the line to return Amazon items was much longer than the line at Kohl's checkouts.  When most people are coming into your store to deal with someone other than you it's not a good look.

- Kohl's is having to expend payroll for somebody to deal with Amazon returns, and that is impinging on store operations.  Particularly since it seems to me that Kohl's has cut payroll recently as they appear to really be struggling to keep the stores maintained.  I was recently in one location that was TRASHED, with large amounts of clothing lying on the floor.

The logic for offering this service was that customers would spend some money in Kohl's while they were in the building after making an Amazon return.  But this appears to not be happening, at least not enough that it is likely covering their costs.

There is also a Whole Foods nearby, and Whole Foods is owned by Amazon, so I'll always have a place to return Amazon stuff.  But for people living in less urban areas, maybe not so much.

I feel like they did this in an attempt to get more people into stores to increase their sales. It appears that it proved to be too popular and a Kohls store filled with Amazon customers really wasn't such a good idea after all.
