Eleven years after it was shuttered the abandoned Washington Mall in Washington, Pennsylvania (25 miles south of Pittsburgh) finally has a date with the wrecking ball.

The mall will be replaced with a mixed-use development. The mall got a brief reprieve just over a decade ago when a J.C. Penney store which had left the mall for a new strip center along U.S. Route 19 had to return to the mall after that new location began subsiding into a mine shaft.  Eventually Penney's left town altogether.

Washington Crown Center, formerly the Franklin Mall, is still open a few miles to the west, although it's vacancy rate keeps increasing.
