Chi Chi's planning a comeback in 2025

Chi Chi's, the fondly remembered Mexican chain which went out of business after being identified as the cause of a hepatitis outbreak two decades ago, is going to attempt a comeback.

Ever since the restaurants closed the Chi Chi's name and trademark have been owned by Hormel Foods, which has used them on a line of salsas and related grocery products.  Michael McDermott, son of one of the co-founders of the original Chi Chi's, has negotiated a deal to reacquire the name and trademark for use on a new chain of restaurants slated to begin opening in 2025.
