I decided to look at the old St. Johnsbury location on streetview for fun, and found this sweet surprise:
You cannot see attachments on this board.
The old sign has been peeling back, revealing the original sign being still there underneath; albeit in bad condition, no other streetviews have this going on, so it must be fairly recent.

It kind of gives off an old mill vibe, like some other early stores (this one originally opened in October 1959). Any idea on what this was originally?

Cool to see this sign in colour. Prior to this, the only photo of this sign that I knew of was the black & white photo that appears in one of training videos
It's the same store, only without the J and the Way.   <- Common joke about Jamesway stores that became Ames stores.

This was the second store in the chain. It's number was probably #0002 since Ames #0001 is the location that replaced Ames #0000 back in 1971.
It's the same store, only without the J and the Way.   <- Common joke about Jamesway stores that became Ames stores.
