The owner of 4 Shop n' Save supermarkets in the Pittsburgh area has pled
guilty to scamming manufacturers on over $300,000 worth of fraudulent coupons.

He'll receive probation.  Typically this happens when store owners take coupons from unsold copies of newspapers at their store and turn them in for redemption, even though they never actually sold the corresponding products.

Apparently his father started this practice years ago, but is no longer around to face the music.

Sometimes the FBI will run stings where they place a coupon in circulation for a product that does
not actually exist.  If a store redeems any they know they are running this fraud.
